Install/Uninstall Problems ========================== Add Printer or Plug N Play Installation =================================== When installing the WorkCentre XL printer software using Add Printer or Plug N Play from the CDROM, the user should browse and select the target directory. English driver: "D:\Enu\Win9x" or "D:\Enu\Win2000" or "D:\Enu\Winnt40". French driver: "D:\Frc\Win9x" or "D:\Frc\Win2000" or "D:\Frc\Winnt40". Spanish driver: "D:\Spa\Win9x" or "D:\Spa\Win2000" or "D:\Spa\Winnt40". Portuguese driver: "D:\Ptg\Win9x" or "D:\Ptg\Win2000" or "D:\Ptg\Winnt40". Uninstall Problem ================= If the WorkCentre XL printer properties dialog box is open and uninstall is performed, the software will not be completely removed. You will have to install the WorkCentre XL printer software and then uninstall with the dialog closed. Operation with other Printers Installed ======================================= 1) Problems may occur when the WorkCentre XL printer software is installed with other printers that use Status Monitor. The problem is that the 2 status programs conflict. Disabling the other printer status program solves this problem. Status Programs may be disabled by: - Remove all other printer manufacture programs started in the STARTUP program group or folder. Restart the computer after deleting. - Remove all reference to status programs in SYSTEM.INI & WIN.INI located in the Windows directory. Put a ';' at the start of any line that loads any printer related programs. For Example, The HP 6P status program is started in WIN.INI. The line "LOAD=C:\....\HPLJSW.EXE" starts the status program. Deleting or placing a ; at the start of the line will disable the starting of the status program. 2) Coexistence with other WorkCenter series (XD, XE, XE Refresh) printer software - Some XL series files have the same filenames as other GDI series printer files. The XL series files will contain the latest file information. - If users desire to have the XL series GDI driver to coexist with other GDI drivers, the XL GDI printer software should be installed last. - If program is running, it can not be replaced by same named new program. This is due to restriction of operating system (OS). Therefore, if user desire the XL series GDI driver to coexist with other GDI drivers, the XL series GDI printer software should be installed last. The PC should be rebooted before the XL series installation. - Recommended Installation procedure 1. Install other WorkCentre series driver 2. PC reboot 3. If the country code changes after installation, default paper will be available by clicking "Defaults" buttom on driver UI. Reinstallation will not be needed.
