Special Installation Note

The Evolution Series cards employ Bridge Technology and must be used in a
PCI 2.1 Compliant Computer. When the card is installed, the Operating system
software will find multiple instances of a VGA compatible device in the
system. This will result in Dialogs that will request that you run a Hardware
Wizard or recommend that you reset the computer to proceed. It is
recommended that you exit from these dialogs. In fact, the same dialogs may
be repeated until all displays associated with the card(s) are detected and
logged by the operating system. You should find an entry for each display
device under "Display adapters" on the Device Manager Tab of the System
Properties panel. After the system has detected each display device,
perform a standard 'Shutdown' procedure after installing the driver as
described in the following section.

Installation for Win98

1) Select the Control Panel Folder. [Start]-->[Settings]-->[Control Panel]
2) Select the "Display" Object.
3) Select "Settings" page.
A monitor icon will be present for each available video device in your
system. For Colorgraphic Multi-Screen operation driver installation is
only required for the 1st display.
4) Click on monitor icon number 1.
5) Select "Advanced..."
6) Select "Adapter" page.
7) Select "Change"
8) When the Update Device Driver Wizard appears select "Next >" and then
choose "Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location,..."
before selecting "Next >" to proceed.
9) Insert the Colorgraphic Driver diskette.
10) Select "Have Disk"
11) Specify a path of A:\W98 and select "OK"
Note: If you downloaded this software set the path to the directory
	  where you unzipped these files.
12) Select "OK" to transfer the files for the "Multi-Screen" drivers.
13) Select "Close"
14) Perform a standard shutdown procedure. [Start]-->[Shut Down]

Resolution/Color Depth

If you have just installed the driver and are on the Settings page
proceed to Step 4. Otherwise...

1) Select the Control Panel Folder. [Start]-->[Settings]-->[Control Panel]
2) Select the "Display" Object.
3) Select "Settings" page.
4) Use the slide bar to select the desired "Screen area". The area selected
will be the area per display.
5) Select the number of colors in the "Colors" scroll bar.
6) Select "OK" or "Apply".
8) Restart Windows to complete the selection if necessary.

Array Dimension and Refresh Rate Selection

1) Select the Control Panel Folder. [Start]-->[Settings]-->[Control Panel]
2) Select the "SetArray" Object.
3) Select from the available refresh rates.
Warning: Your monitors may not be capable of displaying the highest
available refresh rate. If you are not sure, select the rate
and without restarting windows reselect the resolution via the
procedure described in the previous section using the "Apply"
button to make the selection. This will permit a recovery if
	    your displays become unviewable.
4) If the Horizontal and Vertical array dimensions are set to 0 the driver
automatically sets the array to the maximum number of available video
outputs. If you wish to alter the size or orientation of the array enter
the number of displays along the horizontal axis via the "H" variable and
the number of displays stacked on the vertical axis via the "V" variable.
5) Select "Save" to record the values in the [DisplayArray] group of the
   system.ini file.
6) If you have made a change, a dialog "...do you wish to restart Windows?"
will appear. Enter "No" if you are experimenting with the refresh rate
and "Apply" the resolution change as instructed in the warning in Step 3
above. Actually, this is quicker than restarting Windows!

Multi-Screen Driver Controls in the SYSTEM.INI File

The drivers will automatically reconfigure for more displays as cards
are added to the system or a specific configuration can be designated
via the "system.ini" file. After running Setup the following section
will be added to the "system.ini" file. This is a partial list of the
parameters that may be added to the [DisplayArray] group. You may change
the driver operation by changing these parameters using a text editor
of your choice or they can be controlled from within Windows via the
SetArray object installed in the Control Panel folder.

[DisplayArray]
V=0 -- Number of displays vertically. (rows)
H=0 -- Number of displays horizontally.
Hz=60 -- Vertical Refresh Rate (May be changed using SetArray)

Trouble Shooting

PnP Alert BIOS message

If the message PnP alert appears on one or more displays when the system is
booting, the System BIOS has either failed to assign an address range to the
associated device, has assigned a conflicting address range, or the Video BIOS
was unable to make that determination.
The following line placed in the [DisplayArray] group will in some cases
permit the display driver to function.

Windows 98 Built-in Multi-Screen Support

Windows 98 includes built-in Multi-Screen support. However, Desktop Video
applications featured in the Twin Tuna' and Evolution TV series products
require the use of the Colorgraphic Multi-Screen driver. The Evolution 4
product also requires the use of the Colorgraphic Multi-Screen driver.	When
using the Colorgraphic driver there are some side-effects requiring
explanation. In Windows 98 the Operating System controls each display device
independently and the system views a Multi-Screen desktop as an array of
individual displays. The Colorgraphic Multi-Screen driver controls all of the
displays directly and the Operating System views the desktop as a single
display with dimensions that include all of the individual displays. As a
result the monitor icons depicting the array will show monitor 1 to be
stretched out when returning to the settings page. In addition the system will
blank all of the monitors except the 1st one, leaving that portion of the
desktop unviewable. As a workaround to this condition the SetArray Control
Panel applet included with the Colorgraphic Multi-Screen driver can be used to
restore the video on the remainder of the desktop. The simplest method is to
deselect and then reselect the current Refresh Rate and click on the Save
button. It is recommended that the SetArray applet be used to select "Single
Screen" operation prior to selection of the "Settings" page to avoid loss of a
portion of the desktop from view.

You can use the Windows 98 Multi-Screen support by selecting the appropriate
Cirrus Logic drivers provided on the Windows 98 CD. The initial release of
Windows 98 did not include support for the Cirrus Logic 5480. However, the
drivers for the Cirrus Logic 5436 work correctly with the 5480 devices on the
Evolution Series products.

Windows 98 Cirrus Logic 5436 driver Selection

1) Select the Control Panel Folder. [Start]-->[Settings]-->[Control Panel]
2) Select the "Display" Object.
3) Select "Settings" page.
A monitor icon should be present for each available video device in your
system. You will need to install the driver support for each device if
you intend to use the Windows 98 Multi-Screen support.
4) Click on the desired monitor icon.
5) Select "Advanced..."
6) Select "Adapter" page.
7) Select "Change"
8) When the Update Device Driver Wizard appears select "Next >" and then
choose "Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location,..."
before selecting "Next >" to proceed.
9) Select "Show all hardware".

11) If "Cirrus Logic 5480 PCI" is available select it, otherwise select
"Cirrus Logic 5436 PCI" and go to "Next >".
12) If the Cirrus Logic 5436 driver was chosen a warning will appear because
this driver was not specifically written for the Cirrus Logic 5480.
    Select "Yes" and proceed.
13) Follow the remaining instructions to copy the driver files.
14) After selecting "Finish" you may wish to specify the Monitor attached to
the adapter output and then "Close" the Cirrus Logic 5436 PCI Properties
    window.
15) You will need to repeat the procedure beginning with Step 4 for each
display icon shown on the "Settings" page of the "Display Properties"
    window.

Resolution/Color Depth/Monitor Arrangement

1) Select the Control Panel Folder. [Start]-->[Settings]-->[Control Panel]
2) Select the "Display" Object.
