================================================================ Readme for ATAPI CD-ROM Drives with all current versions of DOS and Windows 3.X. ================================================================ To install this device driver for the DOS\Windows operating systems, please follow this procedure: Note: If you have DOS 5.0 or a previous version of DOS, you will need to obtain a copy of the Microsoft file: "MSCDEX.EXE." DOS version 6.0 or higher will display a "Wrong DOS Version" error if you use the MSCDEX.EXE file from a lower version of DOS. Please insure that you use the correct version of MSCDEX.EXE with your DOS operating system. The MSCDEX.EXE file is used in AUTOEXEC.BAT to assign a drive letter for your CD-ROM drive To install the ATAPI device driver, type the following command at the C:\temp prompt: C:\temp> SETUP.BAT Please accept the default responses to questions in the SETUP.BAT installation procedure. SETUP.BAT will create a DEV directory and copy TAISATAP.SYS to it. Setup will also create a BIN directory and copy MSCDEX.EXE to it. Next, Setup will modify the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files to include the required lines for the CD-ROM drive. Reboot the system, and the CD-ROM should be recognized and will be assigned the next logical drive letter after your hard drive(s). ================================================================ Device driver installation for MS-DOS mode, under Windows `95 - (Real Mode Drivers) ================================================================ First , Click the Windows `95, "START" button, then select "Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode". The DOS command prompt will be displayed. ex: C:\WINDOWS> To install the ATAPI device driver, type the following commands: C:\DOS> CD \temp C:\temp> SETUP.BAT Please accept the default responses to questions in the SETUP.BAT installation procedure. SETUP.BAT will create a DEV directory and copy TAISATAP.SYS to it. Setup will also create a BIN directory and copy MSCDEX.EXE to it. Next, Setup will modify the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files to include the required lines for the CD-ROM drive. When finished with the setup program you must "EXIT" back to Windows 95. Then click on Start, shut down and Restart in MS-DOS mode, for the drivers to become active. When you do this you will see a drive letter assigned. After completing this procedure, your CD-ROM drive will be recognized in both Windows `95 and MS-DOS modes each time your system comes up. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
