How to install a Conexant Based SoftK56 modem under Windows 2000 (RC2, Build 2128)

A warning...
This driver takes time to get working as it requires an installation of NT4 then upgrading to Win2k, it works and saves you the price of a new modem but it is up to you to decide if it is worth all of the time and effort...

All Right...

(FIRST PART)

First back up everything that you wish to save on your hard drive to Zip disks, a seprate partition, etc... Next get rid of Win2k and install NT4 (I warned you ahead of time!!!). Once NT4 is installed install the NT4 driver by running setup.exe. It is IMPARITIVE that you restart your computer after the driver is finished installing. The program will not restart your computer you have to do it manually...

(SECOND PART)

You can install the rest of your software while NT4 is installed but I perfer to install it all once Win2k is setup... Run setup.exe on your Win2k cd to start Win2k setup. When prompted to upgrade CLICK ON YES. Win2k will then continue to setup... Take this time to go and grab something to eat, drink, etc... Once Win2k is finished setting up go to Add/Remove Software in the Control Panel and REMOVE the NT4 Driver for the modem and RESTART your computer. Once your computer is reset you can install the driver (CLick yes when prompted if you are sure you want to use the driver). Once again remember to reset the computer once the driver is finished loading and your modem will work!

Have Fun!
