Overview

This document contains information about installing the ATI Radeon 8500 and ATI Radeon VE Windows XP unified driver version 6.13.3276.0.  It is certified with Microsoft WHQL.  


Identification

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.  In Performance and Maintenance, click System. 

2.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

3.  In Device Manager, double-click Display adapters.  If you have the video card this driver is for, ATI Radeon 8500 or ATI Radeon VE card Series is listed.


Installation 

Download the file to the desktop, and then follow these steps. 

1.  Double-click the 7512797.exe file.

2.  The Win-Zip Self-Extractor window opens, and the files are unzipped to C:\cabs\7512797.

3.  Close all open programs.

4.  From the Start menu, click Run.

5.  In the Run dialog box, type: C:\cabs\7512797\setup.exe.  Click OK.

6.  In the Welcome to ATI Install Wizard dialog box, click Next.

7.  In the License Agreement dialog box, read the agreement, and then click Yes if you agree to its terms. 

8.  The driver is copied and installed.  When it is done, click Finish to restart the computer.



Removal

1.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.  In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance.  In Performance and Maintenance, click System. 

2.  In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.

3.  In Device Manager, double-click Display adapters, and then double-click ATI Radeon 8500 or ATI Radeon VE card Series.

4.  In the ATI Radeon 8500 or ATI Radeon VE Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Uninstall.

5.  In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.

6.  When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.  If you are prompted to restart again, click Yes again.


Troubleshooting

If you have difficulty during driver installation or after, perform the following troubleshooting steps. 

1.  Ensure that all cables are securely connected.  

2.  Ensure that the video card is fully seated in the AGP or PCI expansion slot.

3.  Set your display adapter to Standard VGA: 
 
 a.  From the Start menu, click Control Panel.  In Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs.
 b.  In the Add or Remove Programs window, select ATI Radeon 8500 or ATI Radeon VE, and then click Change/Remove.
 c.  If prompted to confirm the removal, click Yes.
 d.  When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
 e.  After restarting, in the Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box, click Cancel. 
 f.  Reinstall the driver using the Installation section of this document.  Ensure that you perform each step.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
