USING NWSET TO CONFIGURE THE PRINTER
------------------------------------

NWSET allows you to configure the following printer parameters in DOS 
environments:

	- Connection Mode
	- Printer Name
	- Print Server Name
	- Primary File Server
	- NDS Tree
	- Login Password
	- Transmission Frame Type
	- Queue Scan Interval
	- Token Ring Parameters
	

System requirements
-------------------

NWSET runs under DOS 5.0 or later.  NWSET is compatible with NetWare 3.x 
and NetWare 4.x, in both Bindery and NDS modes.

NOTE: If your network has more than 32 file servers, use NWSET instead of 
PCONSOLE to configure printers and queues.


INSTALLING NWSET
----------------

NWSET (NWSET.EXE) is included with your printer's network utilities 
software.  You can run NWSET from the diskette or CD-ROM, but it is 
recommended that you install it on a NetWare file server or client.
 
To install NWSET, copy it to a directory on a NetWare file server or client.
For example, if the network utilities diskette is in drive A: and the 
destination directory is F:\PUBLIC, type this command:

	COPY    A:\PC\NWSET.EXE    F:\PUBLIC

NetWare 3.x Use PCONSOLE to configure the network
-------------------------------------------------

Adding a print server

	1. Log in with supervisor privileges.
	2. Launch the NetWare utility PCONSOLE.
	3. From the Available Options menu, select Print Server Information 
	   and press the Enter key.  The Print Servers menu is displayed.
	4. Press the Insert key, then enter the printer's default print 
	   server name, and press Enter.  The default print server name is 
	   in the following syntax:
		TEKxxxxxx
	   where xxxxxx is the last six hex digits of the Printer ID.
	   The printer's print server name is listed on the Configuration 
	   Page. When you have entered the default print server's name, 
	   press Enter.  The new name is added to the Print Servers menu.
	5. With the Print Server name highlighted, press Enter to display the
	   Print Server Information submenu.  Select Print Server 
	   Configuration and press the Enter key.
	6. In the Print Server Configuration Menu, select Printer 
	   Configuration and press the Enter key.
	7. In Configured Printers, select the first printer in the list and 
	   press the Enter key.  The Printer Configuration menu is displayed.
	8. Change these settings:
		- Set Name to any desired name.  
		- Set Type to Remote Other/Unknown.
		- For the rest of the options on the list, the default 
	 	  setting is recommended.
	9. Save the changes and return to the Available Options menu:
		- Press the Escape key and select Yes when prompted to save 
		  changes.  
		- Press the Escape key four times to return to the Available 
		  Options menu.
		

Selecting queues for the printer

	1. From the Available Options menu, select Print Queue 
	   Information.  A list of queues is displayed.
	2. Insert a new queue or select an existing queue.  
		- To insert a new queue, press Insert, type the queue name, 
		  and press the Enter key.  Select the new queue and press 
		  the Enter key.  When the Print Queue Information menu is 
		  displayed, go to Step 3.
		- To use an existing queue, select the queue and press the 
		  Enter key.  When the Print Queue Information menu is 
		  displayed, go to Step 3.
	3. Select Queue Servers from the Print Queue Information menu.
	4. Press the Insert key to display the list of all Queue Server 
	   Candidates.
	5. Select the server you created in Step 4 under the topic "Adding a 
	   print server," and press the Enter key.
	6. Press the Escape key three times to return to the Available 
	   Options Menu.
	

Configuring the print server

	1. Select Print Server Information and press the Enter key.
	2. Select the print server you created in Step 4 under the topic 
	   "Adding a print server," and press the Enter key.
	3. In the Print Server Information submenu, select Print Server 
	   Configuration Menu, and press the Enter key.
	4. In the Print Server Configuration menu, select Queues Serviced 
	   by Printer, and press the Enter key.
	5. The Defined Printers window is displayed.  Highlight the Defined 
	   Printer you just created and press the Enter key.
	6. The File Server / Print Queue window is displayed.  Press the 
	   Insert key to display the Available Queues window.  Select the 
	   appropriate Print Queue and press the Enter key.
	7. PCONSOLE prompts you for the priority level of the print queue.  
	   The default priority is 1 and does not need to be changed.  Press 
	   the Enter key.
	8. Press the Escape key six times to exit PCONSOLE.


Changing the password

If you use Change Password in PCONSOLE, the password is not sent to the 
printer.  Use NWSET to set the printer password.


NetWare 3.x Printer configuration using NWSET
---------------------------------------------

Use this procedure to perform a quick configuration using the default 
parameters supplied by NWSET.  Before beginning this procedure, make sure 
that the printer is connected to the network and turned on.

	1. Start NWSET:
		a. Change (CD) to the directory that contains NWSET.EXE.  
		   For example, if NWSET.EXE is in F:\PUBLIC, type:
			F:
			CD   \PUBLIC
		b. Type:
			NWSET
	2. Pull down the Select A Printer menu to display the list of 
	   available Tektronix printers and select the Tektronix printer 
	   you wish to configure.  The factory default print server name is
	   in the following syntax:
		TEKxxxxxx
	   where xxxxxx is the last six hex digits of the Printer ID.

NOTE: If the printer does not appear in the list of available printers, you
could have a network hardware problem or an incorrect frame type (see 
"Printer does not appear in NWSET").

	3. When you have selected a Tektronix printer, a dialog box is 
	   displayed.  Enter your user name and password.
  
NOTE: If you are already logged in to another printer, you will be prompted
to log off before logging on to the new printer.

	4. Select the Quick Configuration menu; the Settings dialog box is 
	   displayed.  Fill in the parameters for the printer by clicking 
	   on the settings to be made.

	   The following settings are required; other settings are optional:           

	   - Connection Mode: Bindery
	   - Primary File Server: The name of the file server you configured 
	     using PCONSOLE

	5. When you have the settings the way you want them, select 
	   Apply/Reset Print Server to enter the settings into the printer.
	6. Select Exit to exit NWSET.  The printer should now be ready to 
	   start printing; if not, refer to "Troubleshooting DOS 
	   configurations."
      

Changing the print server name or password

If you change the Print Server name on the printer using NWSET, you must 
use PCONSOLE to change the print server name on every file server to be 
used by that printer.

NOTE: In NWSET, if a password was set previously, the old password is not 
displayed in the Login Password dialog box.  To change the password, you 
must enter the old password and the new password.

Adding a print server

	1. Log in with ADMIN bindery privileges.
	2. Launch the NetWare utility PCONSOLE.  If logged in with an NDS 
	   connection, navigate the DS Tree to the Bindery Context and press 
	   the F4 key to switch to Bindery mode.
	3. From the Available Options menu, select Quick Setup and press the 
	   Enter key.  The Print Services Quick Setup window is displayed.
	4. The first available print server is displayed by default.  Press 
	   the Enter key to display the list of all available print servers.
	   Press the Insert key, then enter the printer's default print 
	   server name, and press Enter.  The default print server name is 
	   in the following syntax:
		TEKxxxxxx
	   where xxxxxx is the last six hex digits of the Printer ID.
	   The printer's print server name is listed on the Configuration 
	   Page. When you have entered the default print server's name, press
	   Enter.  The new name is displayed in the Print Services Quick 
	   Setup window.
	5. Press the down arrow key to select the New Printer field.  P1 is 
	   the default name.  Press the Enter key to edit this name as 
	   desired.  When done, press the Enter key to return to the Print 
	   Services Quick Setup window.
	6. Press the down arrow key to select the New Print Queue field.  
	   Q1 is the default name.  Press the Enter key to edit this name as 
	   desired.  When done, press the Enter key to return to the Print 
	   Services Quick Setup window.
	7. Press the down arrow key to select the Printer Type field.  
	   Parallel is the default name.  Press the Enter key to display the 
	   Printer Type list.  Select Other/Unknown and press the Enter key 
	   to return to the Print Services Quick Setup window.
	8. Press the up arrow key to select the Banner Type field.  Text is 
	   the default name.  Press the Enter key to display the Banner Type 
	   list.  Select Postscript, then press the Enter key to return to 
	   the Print Services Quick Setup window.
	9. Press the Escape key once.  PCONSOLE prompts you to Save Changes.
	   Select Yes.  Press the Escape key again and exit PCONSOLE.


NetWare 4.x (Bindery mode) Printer configuration using NWSET
------------------------------------------------------------

Use this procedure to perform a quick configuration using the default 
parameters supplied by NWSET.  Before beginning this procedure, make sure 
that the printer is connected to the network and turned on.

	1. Start NWSET:
		a. Change (CD) to the directory that contains NWSET.EXE.  
		   For example, if NWSET.EXE is in F:\PUBLIC, type:
			F:
			CD   \PUBLIC
		b. Type:
			NWSET
	2. Pull down the Select A Printer menu to display the list of 
	   available Tektronix printers and select the Tektronix printer 
	   you wish to configure.  The factory default print server name 
	   is in the following syntax:
			TEKxxxxxx
	   where xxxxxx is the last six hex digits of the Printer ID.

NOTE: If the printer does not appear in the list of available printers, you 
could have a network hardware problem or an incorrect frame type (see 
"Printer does not appear in NWSET").

	3. When you have selected a Tektronix printer, a dialog box is 
	   displayed.  Enter your user name and password.
  
NOTE: If you are already logged in to another printer, you will be prompted 
to log off before logging on to the new printer.

	4. Select the Quick Configuration menu; the Settings dialog box is 
	   displayed.  Fill in the parameters for the printer by clicking on 
	   the settings to be made.

	   The following settings are required; other settings are optional:           

		- Connection Mode: Bindery
		- Primary File Server: The name of the file server you 
		  configured using PCONSOLE

	5. When you have the settings the way you want them, select 
	   Apply/Reset Print Server to enter the settings into the printer.
	6. Select Exit to exit NWSET.  The printer should now be ready to 
	   start printing; if not, refer to "Troubleshooting DOS 
	   configurations."
      

Changing the password

If you change the Print Server name on the printer using NWSET, you must use 
PCONSOLE to change the print server name on every file server to be used by 
that printer.

NOTE: In NWSET, if a password was set previously, the old password is not 
displayed in the Login Password dialog box.  To change the password, you 
must enter the old password and the new password. 


NETWARE 4.x (NDS mode)
----------------------


NetWare 4.x (NDS mode) Network configuration (PCONSOLE Quick Setup)
-------------------------------------------------------------------

	1. Log in with ADMIN privileges.
	2. Enter PCONSOLE by typing:
		PCONSOLE
	3. Change Context to the correct location in the Directory Services 
	   tree for creating the printer objects.  For more information on 
	   navigating the DS Tree, see the NetWare user documentation.
	4. From the Available Options menu, select Quick Setup.  The 
	   Print Services Quick Setup template is displayed, with default 
	   values assigned.
	5. If desired, change the print server name, printer name, print 
	   queue name, or print queue volume.
	6. Change the Printer Type to Other/unknown.
	7. Change the Banner Page Type to PostScript.
	8. Press F10 to save the setup and return to the Available Options 
	   Menu.
	9. Press Escape to exit PCONSOLE.


NetWare 4.x (NDS mode) Printer configuration using NWSET
--------------------------------------------------------

Use this procedure to perform a quick configuration using the default 
parameters supplied by NWSET.  Before beginning this procedure, make sure 
that the printer is connected to the network and turned on.

	1. Start NWSET:
		a. Change (CD) to the directory that contains the tool.  
		   For example, if the tool is in F:\PUBLIC, type:
			F:
			CD   \PUBLIC
		b. Type:
			NWSET
	2. Pull down the Select A Printer menu.  NWSET begins a discovery 
	   procedure to display the list of available Tektronix printer found
	   on the network.  Select the Tektronix printer you wish to 
	   configure.  The default print server name is in the following 
	   syntax:
		TEKxxxxxx
	   where xxxxxx is the last six hex digits of the Printer ID.

NOTE: If the printer does not appear in the list of available printers, you 
could have a network hardware problem or an incorrect frame type (see 
"Printer does not appear in NWSET").

	3. When you have selected a Tektronix printer, a dialog box is 
	   displayed.  Enter a user name and password with ADMIN privileges.
	   Click the OK button.
  
NOTE: If you are already logged in to another printer, you will be prompted 
to log off before logging on to the new printer.

	4. Select the Quick Configuration menu; a dialog box is displayed.  
	   Fill in the parameters for the printer:

	   The following settings are required; other settings are optional:          

		- Connection Mode: NDS
		- NDS Tree: User defined
		- NDS Context: User defined

	5. When you have the settings the way you want them, select 
	   Apply/Reset Print Server to enter the settings into the printer.
	6. Select Exit to exit NWSET.  The printer should now be ready to 
	   start printing; if not, refer to "Troubleshooting DOS 
	   configurations."       


TROUBLESHOOTING DOS CONFIGURATIONS
----------------------------------


Printer does not appear in NWSET
--------------------------------

	1. Make sure that the printer is turned on and properly connected 
	   to the network.
	2. Check the Configuration Page to make sure that NetWare is enabled
	   on the printer.
	3. If your network uses a router, make sure that your router is 
	   configured to not suppress NetWare SAP (Service Advertising 
	   Protocol) packets.

NOTE: On the printer's Configuration Page, all zeros in on or more of the 
IPX Networks fields indicates that the printer does not recognize the network
connection; this probably indicates a bad cable connection, an incorrect 
frame type, or Reply to Get Nearest Server has not been set to on.  It must 
be set to on for at least one file server or router on the same segment as 
the printer.
 

Testing the file server-to-printer connection
---------------------------------------------

	1. To test the file server-to-printer connection, first use the 
	   CAPTURE command to redirect output sent to a port to a network 
	   queue.  For example:

		CAPTURE    NB    NFF    NT    Q=PHASER    L=1
		where:
		NB specifies NO BANNER
		NFF specifies NO FORM FEED
		NT specifies NO TABS
		Q=PHASER specifies PHASER as the queue name
		L=1 specifies port LPT1

	2. Use any text editor to create a two-line ASCII file with the 
	   following contents:

		%!
		showpage

	3. Use the  COPY command to send the file to the printer.  For 
	   example, if the file is called SHOWPAGE, and the printer is 
	   assigned to LPT1, type:

		COPY    SHOWPAGE    LPT1:

If the file server-to-printer connection is working, the printer ejects a 
blank page.

 
Cannot submit job to a queue
----------------------------

Use PCONSOLE to make sure access rights to the print queue have been granted
to the user having difficulty.

	1. Login with Supervisor/ADMIN privileges and launch PCONSOLE.
	2. Select the File Server you are trying to print to.  Select Print 
	   Queue Information.  Select the Print Queue for this printer.
	3. In the next menu, select Queue Users. A  list of current queue 
	   users is displayed.  Press the Insert key to add additional users 
	   if needed, or verify this user is a member of a group already 
	   assigned to the queue.
	4. Make sure that users have the correct printer driver installed, 
	   and that the driver is linked to the correct print queue.


Job appears in queue, but printer does not service it
-----------------------------------------------------

	1. Use PCONSOLE to verify that the printer has been set up to 
 	   service the queue, see "Selecting queues for the printer."
	2. Check that the printer was able to log in to the file server:
		a. At the file server's console, type:  load monitor.
		b. Select Connection Information from the Available Options 
		   menu.  If the printer has logged in, its print server name
		   is displayed in the list.  If the print server name is not
		   on the list, continue with Steps 3 through 5.
	3. Verify that there was an available connection slot for the printer.
	   Since the printer consumes a login connection, the file server may
	   need an available connection for the printer to log in.

NOTE: If the password for the print server set with PCONSOLE does not match 
the password set in the printer with NWSET, the printer will not be able to 
log in to the file server.

	4. Verify that the printer's print server name matches the one 
	   created on the file server. The Configuration Page reports 
	   the printer's print server name. 
	5. Verify that the frame type the printer is using is supported 
	   by the file server.
	6. If you are printing from NetWare 4.0, 4.0.1, or 4.0.2, bindery 
	   emulation must be enabled on your file server.


Job is serviced, but does not print
-----------------------------------

	- Download the PostScript Error Handler to the printer. For 
	  information on using the Tektronix PostScript Error Handler, 
	  see your printer's user documentation.
	- You can use PCONSOLE to check the print job. Select the queue where
	  the job was sent, then select the Current Print Job entry to view 
	  the job. If the job is being serviced, it indicates this along with
	  the name of the print server servicing the job.
	- You can use PCONSOLE to check the print queue to print server 
	  assignment.  Make sure the print queue is linked to the print server
	  for this printer.  If the print queue is linked to a different 
	  print server, the print job may be printing on a different printer 
	  in another location.
	- Make sure that you are using the correct Tektronix driver for your 
	  networked printer.
	- Banners, form feeds, and tabs may interfere with the print job. Try 
	  disabling these from the driver/network setup.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
