Set Token Ring parameters: PC: TOKNCFG.PS UNIX: config-TokenRing ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parallel connection to Tektronix printers Sending PostScript utility files to the printer for configuration can be accomplished by using the printer's parallel port. If you use this method, you need the correct parallel cable or adapter. These are available from Tektronix: - Parallel cable (part number 012-1468-00). 36-pin high-density plug to 25-pin DSUB plug; 3 meters (9.84 feet). - Parallel adapter (part number 013-0299-00). Converts 36-pin low-density 1284-B plug to 36-pin high-density 1284-C plug. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disabling protocols To disable protocols, send the appropriate PostScript file to the printer. The files are included with the printer's network utilities software. 1. Send the appropriate PostScript file to the printer (see the following list). 2. Reset the printer. Utility files for disabling and enabling protocols (PC/UNIX): To disable EtherTalk: ETALKOFF.PS To enable EtherTalk: ETALKON.PS To disable TokenTalk: TTALKOFF.PS To enable TokenTalk: TTALKON.PS To disable NetWare: NWAREOFF.PS To enable NetWare: NWAREON.PS To disable EtherTalk: TCPIPOFF.PS To enable EtherTalk: TCPIPON.PS ------------------------------------------------------------------------- NetWare printer configuration (NWCONFIG.PS, FRAME.PS, NDSON.PS) NWCONFIG.PS In DOS environments and other non-Windows environments, you can use the file NWCONFIG.PS to configure the printer for NetWare 4.x networks. The file is included with your printer's network utilities software. Copy the file to your computer's hard disk before you begin printer configuration. NOTE: The PostScript code contained in the file NWCONFIG.PS is also available in a Macintosh file called Configure NetWare. To configure your printer for NetWare 4.x from a PC using the file NWCONFIG.PS, you must edit the file and send it to the printer. When you edit the file, you need to supply the following information: - Connection mode context (NDS, Bindery, Both NDS and Bindery) - Print Server Name - Primary File Server - NDS Tree - Transmission Frame Types On/Off for each frame type The comments in the file provide more information. 1. To use the file NWCONFIG.PS, first open the file using any text editor. Make the appropriate changes to the file according to the instructions contained in the file. 2. Send the file to the printer by any convenient method. Since the printer is not yet set up for NetWare operation, you cannot send the file to the printer over a NetWare connection; use a parallel, EtherTalk, TokenTalk, LPR, or AppSocket connection. FRAME.PS The printer's default frame type for NetWare is Adaptive (the printer uses the frame type of the first file server that responds to a broadcast from the printer). If you are installing the printer on a NetWare network and you need to change the IPX frame type, use the PostScript file Set IPX Frame Type. To change the frame type, you must edit the file and send it to the printer. Open the file in any text editor and find the line: /YourFrameType (DIX) def Change "DIX" to the frame type you want; the choices are: For Ethernet: 802.3-x (Novell style 802.3; sometimes called Raw) DIX (Ethernet II) 802.3-2 (802.3 with 802.2 header) 802.3-2-SNAP (802.3 with 802.2 and SNAP headers) Adaptive (Auto sense) For Token Ring: 802.5-2 (IEEE Token ring 802.5) 802.5-2-SNAP (IEEE Token ring 802.5-SNAP) Adaptive (Auto sense) Save the file as text-only. Then send the file to the printer by any convenient method. Since the printer is not yet set up for IPX operation, you cannot send the file to the printer over a NetWare connection; use a parallel, EtherTalk, TokenTalk, or TCP/IP connection. NDSON.PS This file enables NetWare Directory Services (NDS) and allows you to set the directory tree and context. The comments in the file provide details Sending the files over a parallel connection If you send the file to the printer over a parallel connection, you must add Control-D characters to the beginning and end of the file. You can use the batch file ADDCTRLD.BAT in the NET-UTIL directory to do this. The files ADDCTRLD.BAT, CTRLD.PS, and NWCONFIG.PS must all be in the same directory. 1. Copy the files to your computer's hard disk. 2. To use ADDCTRLD.BAT to add Control-Ds to the file NWCONFIG.PS, type the following command: ADDCTRLD NWCONFIG.PS 3. After you send the file to the printer, you must reset the printer before the configuration will take effect. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Resetting the printer (RESET.PS) This procedure resets the printer by sending a PostScript file over a serial or parallel connection. You can also reset the printer by sending a PostScript file over a NetWare connection, after you have finished the NetWare configuration. CAUTION: If you use the file RESET.PS to reset a printer that is directly connected to a NetWare network, you may disrupt normal communication between the printer and the queue, requiring intervention by the system administrator. If communication between the printer and queue is disrupted in this manner, manually delete RESET.PS from the NetWare queue. 1. Locate the RESET.PS file, which is included with your printer's network utilities software; copy the file to your computer's hard disk. 2. Change to the directory containing the file. For example, type: CD UTILS 3. Use the DOS COPY command to send the file to the printer. For example, type: COPY RESET.PS LPT1: UNIX workstation users (reset.ps) This procedure resets the printer by sending a PostScript file over a TCP/IP connection. You will not be able to use this method until you have completed the TCP/IP configuration. Before performing this procedure, you must install the files from the network utilities diskette or the printer's software CD-ROM on to your host computer. 1. Change (cd) to the directory where you placed your printer's network utilities. 2. Send the file to the printer. For example, type: lpr -Pqueue-name reset.ps ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Set TCP/IP device parameters (IPCONFIG.PS; PC and Macintosh) You can use the file IPCONFIG.PS to configure the printer for TCP/IP networks. The file IPCONFIG.PS is included with your printer's network utilities software. Copy the file to your hard disk before you begin. To configure your printer for TCP/IP from a PC using the file IPCONFIG.PS, you must edit the file and send it to the printer. When you edit the file, you need to supply the following information: the printer's IP address, network mask, broadcast address, and gateway address. You can also specify the frame types the printer uses for transmitting and receiving, or you can allow the printer to determine the correct frame type. The comments in the file provide more information. To use this file, follow these steps: 1. Open the file using any text editor. (To ensure that the file remains pure PostScript, it is recommended that you use a "plain text" editor such as EDIT in DOS or Notepad in Windows, rather than a word-processing application like Microsoft Word. If you must use a word-processing application, make sure that you save the file as plain text.) 2. Make the appropriate changes to the file according to the instructions contained in the file. 3. Save the file as plain text. 4. Send the file to the printer by any convenient method. Since the printer is not yet set up for TCP/IP operation, you cannot send the file to the printer over an TCP/IP connection; use a parallel, EtherTalk, TokenTalk or NetWare connection. If you send the file to the printer over a parallel connection, you must add Control-D characters to the beginning and end of the file. You can use the batch file ADDCTRLD.BAT to do this. The files ADDCTRLD.BAT, CTRLD.PS, and IPCONFIG.PS must all be in the same directory. Copy the files to your hard disk before you begin. To use ADDCTRLD.BAT to add Control-D's to the file IPCONFIG.PS, type the following command: ADDCTRLD IPCONFIG.PS ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Set Token Ring parameters (TOKNCFG.PS) You can use the file TOKNCFG.PS to configure the printer for Token Ring networks. Copy the file to your computer's hard disk before you begin. To configure your printer for Token Ring using one of these files, you must edit the file and send it to the printer. When you edit the file, you need to supply the Token Ring parameters. The comments in the file provide more information. To use the Token Ring configuration file, first open the file using any text editor. Make the appropriate changes to the file according to the instructions contained in the file. Send the file to the printer by any convenient method. Use a parallel, NetWare, TCP/IP, or TokenTalk connection. If you send the file to the printer from a PC over a parallel connection, you must add Control-D characters to the beginning and end of the file. You can use the batch file ADDCTRLD.BAT to do this. The files ADDCTRLD.BAT, CTRLD.PS, and TOKNCFG.PS must all be in the same directory. Copy the files to your hard disk before you begin. To use ADDCTRLD.BAT to add Control-Ds to the file TOKNCFG.PS, type the following command: ADDCTRLD TOKNCFG.PS You must reset the printer before the changes take effect. ========================================================================= ========================================================================= Copyright (C) Adobe, Inc.
