ENABLING THE DIRECT TO PORT OPTION
       OF THE SJ-144 WINDOWS DRIVER
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An alternate "Print directly to port" driver has been included
with this version of the driver. This driver works only with
the SJ-144 printer and a 386SX processor or higher. Please
note that this driver may not work with some specialized hardware
and software applications configurations. We recommend that you
make a copy of your SYSTEM.INI file before you begin.

1. Install the driver as described in the above section
"Installing your STAR SJ-144 Printer Driver In Windows 3.1".

2. Exit Windows. This change should not be run from the DOS
Prompt icon in Windows. It is necessary to re-start Windows
after the modification of the SYSTEM.INI file to allow the changes
     will take effect.

3. Insert the diskette in the appropriate drive (A: or B:)
If the disk is in your A: drive, type 'A:". If the disk is in
a different drive, type the drive name. Example - if the disk
is in the B: drive, type 'B:', without the quotes.

4. To run the install program, type "INSTVPD" and follow the
    instructions on the screen.

5. Re-start Windows. For instructions on how to configure your
printer, Please refer to Chapter 5, "Control Panel," in the
    "Microsoft Windows User's Guide."

This program searches the current path of the Windows directory
for the SYSTEM.INI file and will make the required change. If the
default virtual printer device is currently selected (i.e. the line
'device=*vpd.386') exists in the [386Enh] section, it will replace
it with 'device=vpd.386'to enable the new virtual driver.

Thank you for choosing STAR MICRONICS 6/8/93
