CardWare Version 2.5 Release 29-June-1995
README.TXT
==============================================================================

   The Windows Setup utility (SETUP.EXE) or the DOS Setup utility (INSTALL.EXE)
   copies files to a directory on your system. By default, the directory is
   C:\CARDWARE. At your option, Setup modifies your system files (CONFIG.SYS
   and AUTOEXEC.BAT) to include the necessary entries to support PC Cards.

   Setup also creates a program manager group for CardWare and, optionally,
   can place the PC Card Control for Windows program so it will be auto-
   matically started when Windows loads.

   The best place to get more information about CardWare is the Windows help
   file CARDWARE.HLP. It contains complete information about setting up your
   system and configuring CardWare to support PC Cards.

1) Important Notice
=================================
   The CardWare Card Services are now running in Protected-Mode. Card Services
   provides a limited Real-Mode Stack for Client notifications. If a client
   driver requires more than 200 Bytes of stack, it must provide its own stack.

   If a driver does not supply enough stack, your system may hang. Such a
   problem is a problem with the client driver and not with CardWare. Such a
   failure should be reported to the company responsible for the driver.

2) Known Problems with this release
=================================
   A) With the Databook Socket-Services (SSTCIC.EXE), writing to ATA drives
      may not work correctly on some of Databook adapters. This is a hardware
      related problem. Please contact your hardware supplier for a solution
      to this problem.

   B) On some Databook implementations, beep codes are generated when access-
      ing the PCMCIA slots. This is a hardware related problem. Please contact
      your hardware supplier for a solution.

   C) Setup is unable to modify the CONFIG.SYS if "sub-menus" are used. While
      Setup does recognize and work with MS-DOS 6.x multi-configuration menus,
      it is not fully compatible with the use of sub-menus. The work around is
      to remark-out the sub-menus before running Setup. Afterwards, simply
      remove the remarks from your CONFIG.SYS.

3) Using SRAM cards with CardWare
=================================
   CardWare can not recognize a blank (unformatted) SRAM card with the
   Write-Protect-Switch set to ON. If you insert a new, unformatted SRAM
   card and DOSCARD reports,

                     'Unable to get the card name'
                     'Card was not configured'

   remove the card from the slot and check the Write-Protect-Switch.
   The switch should be set to OFF.

   Once you have formatted the card, you can use the WP-Switch to prevent
   software from writing to this card.

4) Using FLASH cards with CardWare
==================================
   If you are using the Microsoft Flash-File system, make sure to set the
   Write-Protect-Switch (WP) to OFF. CardWare cannot read FLASH cards with
   WP set to ON and DOS will return the error message, 'Invalid Media...'.

5) Platform specific limitations
================================
   A) Texas Instruments TACT controller
      If you are using CardWare on a platform which uses the Texas Instruments
      TACT controller, be aware of the following hardware limitation:
      The TACT controller only supports ONE Memory- and ONE I/O-Window for
      slots 'C' and 'D'. If a PC Card requires more than one Memory- or
      I/O-Window, it can not be used in slot 'C' or 'D'.

      As a result, if you are not able to setup a card in one of these slots,
      try to use the card in either slot 'A' or 'B'.
