Updating the PARIS EDS-1000 Hardware drivers to version 1.05

This document details the steps for updating your ENSONIQ EDS-1000
(Scherzo) driver to version 1.05.  We suggest that you print this
document to have the instructions handy while updating the driver.

New users installing PARIS for the first time should refer to the
instructions in the manual. Existing users who are updating should
follow the instructions given below.

Extracting the Driver files to Floppy (if you've already done this,
skip to the next section):

1) Download the file "Paris105Drivers.exe" to your hard disk.  The driver 
can be downloaded from our web site at www.ensoniq.com.

2) Insert a blank, formatted 3.5" floppy disk  in the floppy drive.

3) Double-click the Paris105Drivers.exe icon and read the instructions

4) Click "OK."  Then click "Unzip" to extract the driver files to 
   your floppy disk.  (Note that the extractor defaults to A: as the 
   floppy drive.  If your 3.5" floppy is mapped to B:, you will need 
   to type "B:\" in the dialog before clicking on "Unzip")

5) Now you are ready to Update your PARIS driver to version 1.05.  
   Be sure to follow the instructions below that correspond to your 
   version of Windows 95.

IMPORTANT - INSTRUCTIONS VARY DEPENDING ON YOUR VERSION OF WINDOWS
(WINDOWS 95A, WINDOWS 95B, or WINDOWS 98)

If you have updated to Windows 98, skip to the section "IF YOU HAVE
WINDOWS 98" below.

To determine which version of Windows 95 you have: From the Windows 95
desktop, locate the "My Computer" icon (usually in the upper left
corner of the screen), and Right-click (click the right mouse
button) on the "My Computer" icon, and select "Properties" from the
menu.

Below the text "Microsoft Windows 95" you will see a version number:
  
* If it says "4.00.950" or 4.00.950a", follow the first set of
  instructions below, titled 'IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS 95 REV "A"'

* If it says "4.00.950b", follow the second set of instructions
  below, titled 'IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS 95 REV "B"'

IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS 95 REV "A"

1) Insert the floppy disk containing the new drivers into the floppy
   drive.

2) From the Windows 95 desktop, locate the "My Computer" icon.  This
   is usually in the upper left corner of the screen.

3) RIGHT-click (click the right mouse button) on the "My Computer"
   icon, and select "Properties" from the menu that pops up.

4) Click on the "Device Manager" tab in the top of the "System
   Properties" window that opens.

5) Double-click on the item labeled "Sound, video and Game
   controllers".

6) Double-click on the item labeled "ENSONIQ Scherzo" which appears
   in the list below.

7) Click on the "Driver" tab in the top of the "ENSONIQ Scherzo"
   window that opens.

8) Click on the button labeled "Change Driver..."

9) Click on the button labeled "Have Disk..." in the Select Device
   window that opens.

10) Type "A:\" in the dialog box and click "OK".

11) A Select Device window will open showing "ENSONIQ Scherzo"
    selected.  Click "OK".

12) Click "OK" at the bottom of the ENSONIQ Scherzo Properties"
    window.

13) You will now see a "Copying Files" window.  Type "A:\" in the
    dialog box and click "OK".

14) When the driver files are done copying, click "Close" to close
    the "System Properties" dialog.

The version 1.05 drivers for your EDS-1000 (Scherzo) card are now
installed.  You should restart Windows before running PARIS.

IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS 95 REV "B"

1) Insert the floppy disk containing the new drivers into the floppy
   drive.

2) From the Windows 95 desktop, locate the "My Computer" icon.  This
   is usually in the upper left corner of the screen.

3) RIGHT-click (click the right mouse button) on the "My Computer"
   icon, and select "Properties" from the menu that pops up.

4) Click on the "Device Manager" tab in the top of the "System
   Properties" window that opens.

5) Double-click on the item labeled "Sound, video and game
   controllers".

6) Double-click on the item labeled "ENSONIQ Scherzo" which appears
   in the list below.

7) Click on the "Driver" tab in the top of the "ENSONIQ Scherzo"
   window that opens.

8) Click on the button labeled "Update Driver..."

9) An "Update Device Driver Wizard" will appear.  Click the "No, 
   select driver from list" button, then click "Next".

10) A window will appear listing the "ENSONIQ Scherzo..".  Click
    "Finish".

11) An "Insert Disk" message will appear.  Click "OK"

12) Type "A:\" (without the quotes) in the dialog box and click
    "OK".

13) You will now see a "Copying Files" window.  When the drivers
    are done copying, Click "Close" to close the "ENSONIQ Scherzo 
    Properties" window, then click "Close" to close the "System 
    Properties" dialog.

The version 1.05 drivers for your EDS-1000 (Scherzo) card are now
installed.    You should restart Windows before running PARIS.

IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS 98

1) Insert the floppy containing the new drivers into the CD-ROM drive.  

2) From the Windows 98 desktop, locate the "My Computer" icon.  This is
usually in the upper left corner of the screen.

3) Right-click (click the right mouse button) on the "My Computer" icon,
and select "Properties" from the menu that pops up.

4) Click on the "Device Manager" tab in the top of the "System
Properties" window that opens.

5) Double-click on the item labeled "Sound, video and game controllers"
to show the list of installed devices.

6) Double-click on the item labeled "ENSONIQ Scherzo" which appears in
the device list below "Sound, video and game controllers".

7) Click on the "Driver" tab in the top of the "ENSONIQ Scherzo" window
that opens.

8) Click on the button labeled "Update Driver..."

9) An "Update Device Driver Wizard" will appear. Click the "Next" button
to continue.

10) A window will appear listing two options, an automated search and a
manual search. The automated search is selected by default. Click the
"Next" button to continue.

11) A drive selection window will open. Here you will find check boxes
that can select any available drive in your system (Floppy drive, CD-ROM
drive, etc.) to load drivers from. You can also specify a drive location
manually. Select the device where your driver is located and then hit
the "Next" button.

12) An "Insert Disk" message will appear if the disk is not already in
the drive from the steps above.  Click "OK".

13) You will now see a "Copying Files" window.  When the drivers are
done copying, Click "Close" to close the "ENSONIQ Scherzo Properties"
window, then click "Close" to close the "System Properties" dialog.

The version 1.05 drivers for your EDS-1000 (Scherzo) card are now
installed. You should restart Windows before running PARIS.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
