READ ME FIRST

NW24XCD CD RECOVERY TOOL DISKETTE CREATION STEPS:
Before using your Portable 24X CD-ROM, it is strongly recommended
that you create a CD Recovery Tool Diskette in the event you need 
to restore your hard drive to the original manufacturer's image provided
 on a CD.  Numerous Notebook manufacturers provide a recovery or restore
 CD containing all the factory installed software.  The CD Recovery Tool
 Diskette is necessary to access your CD-ROM drive if you replaced or 
upgraded your Hard Drive and you can no longer boot your Notebook to Windows.

Creating the Diskette
To create the CD Recovery Tool Diskette, please do the following:
1. Power on the computer to Windows
2. Go to the Start/Settings/Control Panel
3. Double-click on Add/Remove Program and click on the Startup Disk tab
4. Click on Create Disk.  Follow the instructions to create a Windows Startup
   Disk. Label this disk "CD Recovery Tool Diskette."
5. Remove the newly created diskette from your Floppy Drive and insert your 
   Portable 24X CD-ROM driver diskette
6. Open My Computer and double click you Floppy Drive icon (3 1/2 Floppy (A)) 
7. Drag the following 4 files from your floppy disk onto your desktop:
     AUTOEXEC.BAT
     CONFIG.SYS
     MSCDEX.EXE
     NW24XCD.SYS
8. Then remove the Portable 24X CD-ROM driver diskette from your Floppy Drive 
   and reinsert the CD Recovery Tool Diskette, which you just created.
9. Drag the 4 files on your desktop onto your Floppy Drive icon (3 1/2 Floppy (A))
10. Once that is done, your CD Recovery Tool Diskette is complete.  Store in a safe place.

Using the Diskette
In the event you need to restore your hard drive to the original manufacturer's image
provided on a CD.  The CD Recovery Tool Diskette is necessary to access your CD-ROM 
drive when you can no longer power on your computer to Windows.

*** Make sure there are no other PC Cards inserted in your Notebook's slots ***
1. Insert the NW24XCD into PC Card Slot 1
2. Insert the CD Recovery Tool Diskette into you floppy drive and restart or power 
   on the notebook

Note the Drive letter of the CD-ROM drive reported on the screen; the default is Drive Q:.

After your notebook has restarted, you'll have access to your CD-ROM drive.  Follow your 
manufacturer's instructions on running the Recovery or Restore process.

Example Steps to Use a CD Recovery Tool Diskette (on a Toshiba Notebook)
1. Insert your Configuration Builder CD into the CD-ROM
2. Type Q: and Press <enter>
3. Type "\bin\recovery" to run the Recovery tool

You'll be prompted to confirm that the Hard disk drive will be restored.  Refer to 
any Text files on the CD for additional information; for example "recovery.txt" and 
"readme.txt."

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
