BIOS Upgrade Instructions
-------------------------

The temporary directory should contain the following four files:
	BIOINSTR.TXT {this file}
	BIOS.EXE 
	LICENSE.TXT 
	MK_BOOTZ.EXE 

If all these files are not present, try extracting the downloaded
BIOS file again.

Creating A Bootable Floppy
--------------------------

	In a DOS environment:
	---------------------

1.  If you have an unformatted floppy, place the floppy in 
	drive a: and type "format a: /s".

2.  If you have a formatted floppy, place the floppy in drive a: 
	and type "sys a:".

	
	In a non-DOS environment:
	-------------------------

1.  Double click on the file ‘MK_BOOTZ.EXE’. This will create a 
	'README.TXT' file. Follow the directions in the 
	'README.TXT' file.



Upgrading to the Latest BIOS
-----------------------------


1.  Be sure to verify that the correct BIOS has been downloaded. 
	a.  AMI BIOS:  the last three characters will be 
	    identical to the current BIOS version
	b.  PhoenixBIOS: the first eleven characters will be 
	    identical to the current BIOS version
2.  Enter BIOS SETUP upon boot up by following the on-screen 
	prompt, ie F1 or F2 depending on the BIOS. 
3.  Write down all settings that are unique to the system. These
	settings will be needed later to reconfigure the system.
4.  Create a bootable floppy diskette using the instructions at 
	the beginning of this document. 
5.  Extract ‘bios.exe’ to the bootable floppy:
	a.  In a DOS environment: Type "bios a:".
	b.  In a non-DOS environment: Create a new directory. 
	    Move 'bios.exe' into the directory. Double click on 
	    'bios.exe'. Copy all the files in the directory 
	    except 'bios.exe' to the bootable floppy.
6.  Place the bootable floppy containing the new BIOS into drive 
	a: of the system to be upgraded and boot the system.
7.  Press ENTER when prompted.
8.  Highlight "Update Flash Memory From a File" and press ENTER.
9.  Highlight "Update System BIOS" and press ENTER.
10. Press TAB once to highlight the file name and press ENTER. 
11. The system will now give a warning stating that continuing
	will destroy the current contents of the flash memory 
	area. Press ENTER to continue.
12. When prompted that the BIOS has been successfully loaded, 
	remove the bootable floppy from the drive and press ENTER
	to reboot the system.
13. Press F1 or F2 to enter SETUP. 
14. On the first screen within SETUP, check the BIOS version to 
	ensure that it is the new version.
15. In SETUP load the default values. 
	a.  AMI BIOS: Press the F5 key.
	b.  PhoenixBIOS: Go to the exit submenu and highlight 
	    "Load Setup Defaults". Press ENTER.
     If you do not set the values back to defaults the system 
     may function erratically.
16. If the system has unique settings, re-enter those settings 
	now. Press F10 to save the values and exit Setup.


Note: If you encounter a CMOS Checksum error or other problems 
after rebooting, try rebooting the system again.  CMOS checksum 
errors require that you enter Setup, check and save your settings, 
and exit Setup.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
