* 1. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
************************************************************
1.  The system must contain one of the following Intel 
chipsets:

          Intel(R) 810 Chipset GMCH A-2
      

2.  It is recommended that the kit software is installed on 
    systems with at least 64MB of system memory.

3.  It is recommended that there is sufficient hard disk 
    space in the <TEMP> directory typically)
    C:\TEMP) on the system to install this software.

    The Windows NT INF files included with this distribution 
    package are designed to function with the following
    versions of Windows NT:
        
       Microsoft *Windows NT 4.0 4.00.1381  (With Service Pak 4)
        

Please check with your system provider to determine which 
operating system and Intel chipset are used in your system.

the driver has been localized in.  You may have to reference
this section while using this document.

* 3. INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE
************************************************************

General Installation Notes:

1.  The operating system must be installed prior to the 
installation of the driver. 

2. This installation procedure is specific only to the 
version of driver and installation file included in this 
release. 
 
3.  You can choose six different methods of installation for 
this release.  The file you need to download for each are 
indicated in the appropriate section.

        1) InstallShield (automated) install from hard drive
	   See section 1.1 
        2) InstallShield (automated) install from CD-ROM
	   See section 1.1
        3) InstallShield (automated) install from floppy disk
	   See section 1.2  
	4) Manual Install from hard drive
	   See section 1.3
	5) Manual Install from CD-ROM
	   See section 1.3
	6) Manual Install from floppy disk
	   See section 1.4 


1.1 INSTALLSHIELD (AUTOMATED) INSTALL FROM CD-ROM or HARD DRIVE

1. Download WINNT4CD.ZIP from the web.  Doubleclick to unzip 
(you must have Winzip installed, download from www.winzip.com).
Hit the "Extract" button and indicate which directory you wish
to extract the files to.  Hit the "Extract" button to unzip
the files to that directory.

2.  At this point you have two options for install. 

If you wish to install from CD, copy the entire contents 
(including subdirectories) of the directory where you unzipped 
the WINNT4CD.ZIP file.  Insert the CD-ROM into the drive - if
you have autorun enabled the installer will begin automatically, 
otherwise enter the graphics directory on the CD-ROM and double-
click SETUP.EXE.

If you wish to install from the hard drive, enter the directory
where you unzipped the WINNT4CD.ZIP file.  Enter the graphics 
subdirectory and doublclick SETUP.EXE.

3.  Click "Next" at the Welcome screen.

4.  Read the license agreement and click "Yes" to continue.

5.  This screen indicates the directory where the End User
Diagnostic Utility files will be stored.  NOTE: the graphics 
driver is not installed here (it is installed in the appropriate
Windows system directories), just the EUD utility files.  If you 
wish to change the directory where the EUD will be stored, click 
"Browse" and change the directory.  Click "Next" to continue.

6. The driver files will now be installed.  When finished installing,
choose the "Yes" to reboot option and click "Finish" to restart your 
computer.  The driver should now be loaded. To determine if the driver 
has been loaded correctly, refer to the "Verifying Installation" 
section below.


1.2 INSTALLSHIELD (AUTOMATED) INSTALL FROM FLOPPY DISK

1.  Download the specific localized version WINNTXXX.ZIP from the 
web, (THE LAST THREE CHARACTER PLACES ARE THE LOCALIZED LANGUAGES 
AVAILABLE) Refer to section 2 for Localized Language Abreviations 
unzip and copy the files to multiple floppy disks.

2.  Insert floppy #1 into the disk drive.  Go to the floppy
directory and double click on setup.exe.

3.  Click "Next" at the introduction screen.

4.  Read the license agreement and click "Yes" to continue.

5.  This screen indicates the directory where the End User
Diagnostic files will be stored.  If you wish to change this
directory, click "Browse" and change the directory.  Click
"Next" to continue.

6. The driver files will be copied from the floppy.  Insert 
the remaining floppies as directed and click "OK". 

7. When finished, click "Yes" to restart your computer (make
sure to remove the floppy disk).  The driver should now be 
loaded. To determine if the driver have been loaded correctly, 
refer to the "Verifying Installation" section, below.


1.3 MANUAL INSTALL FROM CD-ROM OR HARD DRIVE

1.  Download WINNT4CD.ZIP from the web.  Double-click to unzip 
(you must have Winzip installed, download from www.winzip.com).
Hit the "Extract" button and indicate which directory you wish
to extract the files to.  Hit the "Extract" button to unzip
the files to that directory.  If you wish to install from the 
CD-ROM, then the files will need to be transferred to a CD.

2.  Select "My Computer" icon, "Control Panel" icon, and 
then the "Display" icon.

3.  Select the "Settings" tab, then click the "Display Type" 
button.

4.  Press the "Change" button in the Adapter Type section of 
the window, then click the "Have Disk" button.

5.  Press the "Browse" button and go to the "graphics" 
folder on the CD or the hard drive.  Select the "WinNT4" 
folder.  To install the English version of the driver, select
the "i81xNT4.INF" file.  For additional languages,
enter the "Inf" folder and choose the appropriate language.  

6.  A new window, "Install from Disk" should appear.  Click "OK".

7.  Another window, "Change Display" should open listing the 
available display types.  Choose the "Intel Corporation 810 
Graphics Controller Hub" and press "OK". 

8.  Click "Next".  Driver should install.  Click "Finish" when 
done.

9. Close all open windows and click "Yes" to reboot.  The 
driver should now be loaded. To determine if the driver have 
been loaded correctly, Refer to the "Verifying Installation" 
section, below.


1.4 MANUAL INSTALL FROM FLOPPY DISK

=================================================================
Note:  Be sure that the content of each disk is transferred to
the root directory of the floppy.  The appropriate files may not 
be found if they are moved to other subdirectories.    
=================================================================

1.  Floppy disk install is broken down by language, so you need
to download the correct file from the web for the driver language
needed.  File names are of the form WinNT4xxx where xxx is the 
three letter abbreviation of the language you want (see language
abbreviation section 2).  

2.  Once you have downloaded the correct file from the web, 
double-click to unzip (you must have Winzip installed, download 
from www.winzip.com).  Hit the "Extract" button and indicate 
which directory you wish to extract the files to.  Hit the 
"Extract" button to unzip the files to that directory.

3.  Once unzipped you will have multiple subdirectories, labeled 
accordingly.  Copy the contents of these directories to their
corresponding floppy disks.

4.  Select "My Computer" icon, "Control Panel" icon, and 
then the "Display" icon.

5.  Select the "Settings" tab, then click the "Display Type" 
button.

6.  Press the "Change" button in the Adapter Type section of the 
window.  Then click the "Have Disk" button.

7.  The "Change Display" window should open listing the 
available display types.  Choose the "Intel Corporation 810 
Graphics Controller Hub" and press "OK".   

8.  Insert Disk 4 and press "OK".  Follow the prompts for 
additional floppy disks as needed.  

9.  After all the appropriate files are transfered.  Driver 
should be installed.  Click "Finish" when done.

10. Close all open windows and click "Yes" to reboot.  The 
driver should now be loaded. To determine if the driver 
have been loaded correctly, Refer to the "Verifying 
Installation" section, below.

* 4. Verifying the Installation of the Software
************************************************************

1.  Select "My Computer" icon, "Control Panel" icon, and 
then the "Display" icon.

2.  You should now be in the "Display Properties" window.  
Select the "Settings" tab, and click on the "Display Type" 
button. 

3. You should be in the "Display Type" window.  The 
appropriate version number should be listed.  If this is not
the case, then a different driver is being used.

* 5.  DE-INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE
************************************************************
Note that this procedure assumes the above installation 
process was successful.

This de-installation procedure is specific only to the 
version of the driver and installation file included in this 
package.  


1.  From the Windows NT desktop, click on "My Computer", 
then "Control Panel", and then, finally, "Display".

2.  You should be in the "Display Properties" window.  Click 
on the "Settings" tab, then the "Display Type" button. 

3.  The display type page should appear. Now select the 
"Change..." button.  

4.  The Change Display page will appear, In the split window 
under "Manufacturers" select "Standard display type".  In 
the other window select "VGA compatible display adapter".  
Now select "OK". 

5.  The "files needed" screen should appear.  If needed, 
point to the location of the NT install CDROM location and 
click "OK". 

6.  The "installing drivers" page should appear stating that 
"The drivers were successfully installed".  Click "OK".  Click 
"Close" in the Display driver screen then "Close" in "Display 
Properties".

7.  When prompted, re-boot the system as directed in order
for the changes to take effect.

* 6.  IDENTIFYING THE SOFTWARE VERSION NUMBER
************************************************************
1.  Select "My Computer" icon, "Control Panel" icon, and 
then the "Display" icon.

2.  You should now be in the "Display Properties" window.  
Select the "Settings" tab, and click on the "Display Type" 
button. 

3.  You should be in the "Display Type" window.  The 
appropriate version number should be listed.  If this is not
the case, then a different driver is being used.

APPLICABLE LAWS. Claims arising under this Agreement shall 
be governed by the laws of California, excluding its 
principles of conflict of laws and the United Nations 
Convention on Contracts for the Sale of Goods. You may not 
export the Software in violation of applicable export laws 
and regulations. Intel is not obligated under any other 
agreements unless they are in writing and signed by an 
authorized representative of Intel.

GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS. The Software is provided with 
"RESTRICTED RIGHTS." Use, duplication, or disclosure by the 
Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in 
FAR52.227-14 and DFAR252.227-7013 et seq. or its successor. 
Use of the Software by the Government constitutes 
acknowledgement of Intel's proprietary rights therein.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
