Device Driver and Utility Usage of the PCMCIA/SCcardSI card. ======================================================= PCMCIA Card/Socket Services Client Driver (PMS80CL.SYS) ======================================================= This device driver is required to allow interaction between the PCMCIA Card/Socket Services and the SCardSI card. Make sure that you had already install the PCMCIA Card/Socket services onto your computer. Installation Format: Device = \path\PMS80CL.SYS [/Xn] /Xn: ignore checking card service version 1 - yes, 0 - no( default ) ========================= ASPI Driver (pcm80asp.SYS) ========================= Installation Format: Device = \path\pcm80asp.SYS [/Dn] [/Wn] [/Sn] [/Nn] [/An] [/Zn] [/In] /Dn - define how many SCSI drives are attached. n must be 1 - 7, if n is 1 only SCSI ID 0 drive is checked, if n is 2 only SCSI ID 0, 1 drives are checked. Default value is 7. /Wn - define how many seconds to wait time for drive to be stable during POWER ON time. n must be 0 - 1800. Default value is 5. /Sn - set the starting search port access speed level for printer port. n must be 0 - 9. Default value is 0 (the fastest level). Note: In order to streaming the tape backup process, please refer to TAPE.TXT file to learn how to use the /Sn parameter to achieve that. /Nn - define the new name of the ASPI Manager Default: "SCSIMGR$" /An - disable / enable auto request sense function n: 0, disable 1, enable (default) /Zn - n is a byte-length value bit0 = 1, use the slower handshaking speed with low speed device 0, use the block handshaking speed with device (default) Once the value is set, it applys to all of the device on the chain. Automatical setting algorithm is inserted after pcm80asp.sys v1.30. Do not set it unless it's necessary. /In - define the adapter card SCSI ID n must be 0 - 7, default value is 7. ======================== Disk Driver (STASPDSK.SYS) ======================== This device driver requires the ASPI device driver. Install the pcm80asp.SYS driver before the disk driver. This driver supports Fixed Hard Disk, Removable Hard Disk, Magneto-Optical Disk and etc.. Installation Format: Device = \path\STASPDSK.SYS The driver's features include the following: - drives SCSI hard disks, magneto-optical drives, and removable cartridge disks. - supports on-line disk change for removable drives. - compatible with MS-DOS versions 5.0 and above - drives up to 7 disk drives simultaneously. ========================== Disk Utility (WBSDISK.EXE) ========================== Command Syntax: WBSDISK The utility's features include the following: - disk preformat - disk partition ============================ CD-ROM Driver (STASPICD.SYS) ============================ This device driver requires the ASPI device driver. Install the pcm80asp.SYS driver before the disk driver. Installation Format: Device = \path\STASPICD.SYS /D:drivename The "drivename" stands for the physical CD-ROM drive name which should be identical to the "drivename" specified in the following MSCDEX.EXE line. It can be any ASCII string. Please install MSCDEX.EXE in AUTOEXEC.BAT file as shown below: MSCDEX /D:drivename ====================================== WINASPI.DLL Windows compliant ASPI DLL ====================================== Some of the scanner, tape backup applications require the Windows compliant DLL to be loaded. This DLL indirectly interfaces with pcm80asp.SYS to hardware. Copy this file to the Windows home directory. III. Product Support List - Not all inclusive ******************** Most SCSI storage devices are supported even they may not be listed above. New models are constantly added to to the list. Technical tips ************** Use this section as supplement to the Trouble Shooting section in the manual. a. ASPI compatible applications tested: CorelSCSI, CorelSCSI Version 2, SCSI Toolbox, Syplus Tape Backup Novastor Tape Backup, Gazelle Tape Backup, Conner Backup Exec and Adaptec's EZ-SCSI 3.0. b. All of the CD-ROM, Hard Disk, Floptical and Floppy device drivers are based upon the ASPI (pcm80asp.SYS ) device driver. Make sure you have them loaded in order correctly. c. If you are using the PCMCIA/SCcardSI card as a diagnostic tool for your SCSI system. Use the /I switch to set the adapter card ID to any value other than the value of embedded SCSI host adapter. d. HP IIcx Scanjet: After installing both the PCMCIA/SCardSI card software and the HP software, remove the "MINI400..." line from your CONFIG.SYS. Next, verify that the lines below are included, and are in the order shown. Be sure to substitute the correct path for the word path below. DEVICE=path\pcm80asp.SYS /D7 S0 W3 Z1 DEVICE=path\SJIIX.SYS e. To achieve the TAPE drive streaming performance with the ASPI driver and third party tape backup software, please refer to the TAPE.TXT file for more detail information. f. For HP-C4324 CD-Writer user, it's required to add /Z1 at the end of the WBSASPI.SYS command line in the CONFIG.SYS and /A0 to disable auto-request sense feature. g. If your hard disk drive size is larger than 1GB, please use the v1.30 STASPDSK.SYS and v1.0 WBSDISK.EXE to correctly set the partition size. h. For CD-R application, use the v1.0 WinASPI.DLL to correctly read in the disc/track information.
