Driver Installation Guide for Windows For Workgroups 3.11 *********************************************************** Introduction This document describes the procedures to install NDIS 3.0 driver on Windows for Workgroups 3.11. This driver conforms to the Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS 3.0) defined by Microsoft. Installation Procedure 1. Turn your computer off, then Install your Ethernet Adapter to your computer. 2. After the adapter installation, turn your computer on. 3. Start your Windows for Workgroups 3.11. 4. After Windows Start OK, Select "Network" icon and then Select "Network Setup" icon. 5. Click the "Drivers..." button. 6. If you are replacing a previous LAN adapter select the Remove button to delete that adapter 7. Click the "Add Adapter" button. 8. Select "Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter" item bar on the Adapter list. 9. Insert the driver diskette into drive A: or B: and enter A:\WFW311 or B:\WFW311. 10. Select the adapter that matches your hardware from the Network Adapters list [DEC (DC21x4) PCI Ethernet WfW Driver Disk] ,then Select "OK" bar. 11. For PCI adapters, the driver's [Setup..] option allows the user to change the following driver's properties: * BurstLength: Specify the length of the DMA data transfer within a PCI burst (1dword = 4 bytes) 1_dword 2_dwords 4_dwords 8_dwords 16_dwords (default) 32_dwords (DC21140 only) * Bus Number: Specify the PCI Bus Number the adapter is plugged in. Should be modified only for adapter plugged over a PCI to PCI bridge. 0 (default) 1 2 * ConnectionType: Specify the selected Media port ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Digital 10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet Adapter (DECchip 21140) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- o AutoSense Senses dynamically the media ports o 100BaseTx To connect 100BaseTx Ethernet hubs o 100BaseTx Full_Duplex To connect 100BaseTx Full Duplex hubs o 100BaseT4 To connect 100BaseT4 Ethernet hubs o 100BaseFx To connect 100BaseFx Ethernet hubs o 10BaseT To connect 10BaseT Ethernet hubs o 10BaseT Full_Duplex To connect 10BaseT Full Duplex hubs * PciMechanism: Specify the mechanism access to the PCI configuration space. o AutoDetect Detect the system's PCI mechanism automatically o Mechanism 1 Force PCI mechanism #1 accesses to the PCI configuration space o Mechanism 2 Force PCI mechanism #2 accesses to the PCI configuration space * ReceiveBuffers: Specify the size of the receive buffer's ring 8 .. 64 (default 16) * MapRegisters = REG_DWORD {4,8,16} (default: 8) Number of map registers allocated by the adapter. * SnoozeMode = REG_DWORD { 0 | 1 } (DC21041 only) CFDA<SM> 0 Disabled (default) 1 Enabled * StoreAndForward = REG_DWORD { 0 | 1} (DC21140 only) Select the StoreAndForward mode if a low PCI bandwith causes Transmit Underruns CSR6<SF> 1 StoreAndForward mode * TransmitThreshold = REG_DWORD { 72 | 96 | 128 | 160 | 256 | 512 | 1024 } CSR6<TTM,TR> 72 bytes 96 bytes (DC2104X's default) 128 bytes 160 bytes (DC21140's default) 256 bytes (DC21140 only) 512 bytes (DC21140 only) 1024 bytes (DC21140 only) 12. Select "Close" bar and then Select "OK" bar to complete installation. 13. Windows prompts you to insert several WFW system diskettes. 14. When message "Windows Setup has modified your SYSTEM.INI and PROTOCOL.INI... ....." appears, select "OK" bar. 15. Select "Restart Computer" bar. 16. Now, the Windows for Workgroup 3.11 is ready for your Ethernet Adapter.Download Driver Pack
After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
