Overview: This Readme file explains how to install the Novell NetWare DOS ODI Client driver. 2. Preinstallation Hardware and Software Requirements: A. Hardware Requirements: o An IBM-compatible personal computer with 80386 or higher microprocessor and a PCI bus. o A PCI board based on Digital Semiconductor 2104x/2114x 10/100 mbps based Ethernet controller. B. Firmware Requirements: o Fully compliant Rev. 2.0 or above PCI BIOS supplied with the PC. o If Ethernet adapter makes use of Digital Semiconductor 21050 (PCI-PCI bridge), PCI BIOS should support PCI-PCI bridge architecture. C. Software Revision Requirements: o MS-DOS version 3.31 or above. o Novell LSL.COM version 2.16 or above. o Novell IPXODI.COM version 3.02 or above. o Novell NETX.COM version 1.11 or above. or o Novell VLM.EXE version 1.20B or above. 3. Supplied Files: Table 1: The Novell NetWare ODI Client Directory Files --------------------------------------------------------------------- README.TXT This File --------------------------------------------------- DC21X4.COM DC21X4 Novell NetWare ODI Client driver. This file supports the Digital Semiconductor 2104x/2114x 10/100 mbps Ethernet Controller based PCI boards. ---------------------------------------------------------- NET.CFG Novell network configuration file for this driver --------------------------------------------------------------------- 4. Installing Software: To install the Novell NetWare ODI Client Device Driver: DC21X4.COM is the Novell NetWare ODI client driver for the Digital Semiconductor 2104x/2114x 10/100 mbps Ethernet Controller PCI evaluation boards. This Readme file explains how to install the Novell NetWare DOS ODI Client driver. This driver is currently supported for the Digital Semiconductor 21140 PCI based 10/100 mpbs Ethernet Controller Digital Semiconductor 21143/2 PCI based 10/100 mbps Ethernet Controller 1. Copy the following files to a user specified directory: copy a:\NETWARE\DOSODI\*.* 2. Copy the following files provided by Novell to a user specified directory: LSL.COM IPXODI.COM NETX.COM or VLM.EXE 3. Edit the NET.CFG file if necessary to select protocol and media type options. NOTICE: o NO NEED TO SPECIFY SLOT NUMBER, BUS ID OR INTERRUPT NUMBER! o If you specify Bus ID please notice that for PCI bus you write BUS ID PCI 4 in NET.CFG o If you specify Slot Number please notice that SLOT 1 means in PCI : The first board found in system. 4. To connect to a server, use the following loading sequence: LSL DC21X4 IPXODI NETX or VLM LOGIN 5. Parameters of NET.CFG The following parameters can be used in order to control part of the driver's operation. These parameters are added to the driver's entry in NET.CFG For NetWare standard parameters, please refer to NetWare user's manual. Optional Bus type and Slot Number Keywords: ------------------------------------------- BUS ID PCI 4 Forces the driver to search for the board on PCI bus only. SLOT 1 Forces the driver to search for the board instance. (1 is First Board). Optional DC21X4 driver keywords: -------------------------------- TURBO Disable PCI post write buffer in Intel PCI chipset which gives the PCI bus higher priority over the other busses (EISA or ISA). TP Selects Twisted Pair interface. TP_FULL_DUPLEX Selects Twisted Pair interface running in FullDuplex mode. AUTOSENSE Performs Power-Up Autosense on all types of boards in order to connect to the active line, and dynamic 10/100 autosensing (at run-time) on boards Supporting it. RX_BUFFERS 5 Allows the user to select the amount of receive buffers to work with (between 2 to 16). More buffers means larger driver resident in memory but with higher performance. TX_THRESHOLD 4 Range 0..4. 0 = 72 bytes DEF = 0 1 = 96 bytes 2 = 128 bytes 3 = 160 bytes 4 = 160 bytes, store and forward mode (If using this card for 486 PC, set this parameter as "TX_THERSHOLD=4") optional keywords for 10 MBps devices ------------------------------------- TP_No_Link_Test Selects Twisted Pair interface. Transmit does not perform link pulses test. T4 Selects 100 base T4 interface (in conjunction with Line_Speed 100) optional keywords for 100 MBps devices -------------------------------------- Line_Speed 100 Selects the LAN speed 10 or 100 (10MBps or 100MBps). Default is 100MBps for the Fast Ethernet. SNOOZE Changes Chip's Power management to Power-Saving mode. TX_THRESHOLD Range 0..4. 0 = 72 bytes DEF = 0 1 = 96 bytes 2 = 128 bytes 3 = 160 bytes 4 = 160 bytes, store and forward mode Format: TX_THRESHOLD=<value> (If you are using this card for 486 PC, set this parameter as "TX_THERSHOLD=4")Download Driver Pack
