These USB drivers are for MS Windows operating systems and they are needed if the CopperJet modem is to be connected to a MS Windows PC by an USB cable. ============ Feature List ============ - Configuration of the modem is supported either over Ethernet LAN or over USB by the Monitor Tool. ======================== Limitations/Restrictions ======================== - The modem requires firmware v5.14 or later in order to operate with these USB drivers. - Only one modem can be connected to the PC at a time. The USB drivers do not support multiple modems connected simultaniously. - The modem will not boot from USB automatically and booting through USB is not supported by these USB drivers. - The modem's Ethernet LAN and USB ports can be used simultaneously, but connection of a single modem by Ethernet LAN and USB simultaniously to a single PC is not recommended and is not supported. ============= Release Notes ============= These USB drivers are needed for firmware v5.14 and higher. New Features in these USB Drivers --------------------------------- - The USB driver system files are version 8.2.0.16. - Support for Windows XP. - Support for CopperJet 81x/82x hardware revision 3. Solved Bugs in these USB Drivers --------------------------------- - None. ============ Known Issues ============ General Issues -------------- - IEEE 802.1Q Tagged Ethernet frames are not supported. - Updating of the Windows USB drivers on Windows 95/98/98SE/ME require a reboot of the PC before an USB connection to the modem can be established. - When plugging (or unplugging) the modem in (or from) the USB port, it will take about 20 seconds before connection between modem and PC is made. Windows 95/98/98SE will show an hourglass mouse pointer. - The Message Server of Windows 95/98/98SE may hang/crash, if the USB port is accessed by a program or by un-/re-plugging the USB cable, while Windows is waiting for a connection to the modem. This will cause Windows to disable the affected USB port. See the FAQ for further information. Known Bugs ---------- - The USB drivers can only be manually uninstalled. - On Windows 95/98/98SE: When unplugging and replugging the USB cable Windows 95/98/98SE may show 'New Hardware Found' pop-up(s) with 'Unknown Device', while the USB drivers are already installed. See the FAQ for further information. ============= List of Files ============= File Description -------------------------------------------------------------------------- vvbususb.inf USB driver installation info file vvbususb.sys USB driver v8.2.0.16 Vvbeth.inf Virtual ethernet NIC installation info file vvbeth.sys Virtual ethernet NIC driver v8.2.0.16 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ========================== Environmental Requirements ========================== Supported PC OS Platforms -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows NT4, Windows 2000, Windows XP -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ========================== Installing the USB Drivers ========================== A) First time installation of the USB drivers: 1) Make sure the modem is disconnected from the PC. 2) Unzip the USB drivers to a temporary directory or floppy disk, if they are not already unzipped. 3) Connect the powered-on modem to the PC. 4) Windows will find new hardware. 5) When prompted for USB driver, type or browse to the location of the modem's USB drivers. 6) Follow the instructions of Windows. 7) After installing the USB drivers you will see a new network adapter under the network properties and/or under the hardware device manager. This is NOT recommended and is NOT supported. Instead, install new USB drivers over the old ones. As described under 'Installing the USB Drivers'. ========================== Frequently Asked Questions ========================== - Q: The USB port is disabled after (dis-)connecting the modem. A: On Windows 95/98/98SE when plugging (or unplugging) the modem in (or from) the USB port, it will take about 20 seconds before connection between modem and PC is made. During which Windows 95/98/98SE will show an hourglass mouse pointer, while waiting for the USB port to be (un)connected. If during this time the USB port is accessed either - by a program (like a web browser or Monitor Tool) or - by (un)plugging the USB cable, the Message Server of Windows 95/98/98SE may hang/crash and this USB port will be disabled on the PC side. The affected PC USB port can only be used again after Windows has been rebooted/restarted. The modem does not need rebooting. Other USB ports on the PC will still work, if they do not use Windows' Message Server (like Human Interface Divices such as mice). Recommendations: 1) Before fiddling with the USB cable close all applications that might access the USB port (like Monitor Tool, web browser, e-mail program). 2) During and after (un)plugging of the USB cable do not touch the PC for at least 30 seconds. 3) Make sure the modem and the USB mouse do not share the same USB port on the PC through an USB hub (so the mouse can still be used if Windows disables the USB port). - Q: When unplugging and replugging the USB cable, Windows shows 'New Hardware Found' pop-up(s) with 'Unknown Device', while the USB drivers are already installed. A: This only occurs sometimes on Windows 95/98/98SE. When this happens select/click on 'Cancel' to remove the pop-up(s). To keep this from happening: Reinstall the drivers manually. Manually installing USB drivers under Windows 95/98/98SE: + Goto: System Properties->Device Manager->Network adapters + Select/Click 'ADT CopperJet Virtual Ethernet NIC' + Goto: Properties->Driver->Update Driver + Select/Click 'Next' + Select/Click 'Display a list of all the drivers ..' + Select/Click 'Next' + Select/Click 'Have a disk' and go to the drivers directory + Select/Click 'CopperJet Virtual Ethernet NIC' + Select/Click 'Next' + Install all the necessary drivers + Select/Click 'Finish' + Reboot Windows manually. ================= Related Documents ================= For Document See Website ------------------------------ AF www.atmforum.com ANSI www.ansi.org ETSI www.etsi.org IEEE www.ieee.org ISO www.iso.ch ITU www.itu.int RFC www.ietf.org TR & WT www.dslforum.com UPnP www.upnp.org USB-IF www.usb.org ------------------------------ ======== Contacts ======== Sales: Allied Data Technologies P.O.
