IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS
=============================================================================

* For custom installations (multiple frame types), refer to your Novell
    NetWare ODI Shell for DOS manual.

=============================================================================
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
=============================================================================

Hardware Requirements:

* IBM-compatible personal computer (PC), 80486 or higher with PCI bus
    supporting bus master mode

Firmware Requirements:

* Fully compliant Rev. 2.0 or higher PCI BIOS supplied with the PC

Software Requirements:

*  MS-DOS v3.0 or higher

* Novell IPXODI (provided on the ConfigDisk)

* Novell LSL (v2.11 or higher, provided on the ConfigDisk)

* Novell NETX or Novell VLM (provided on the ConfigDisk)

=============================================================================
FILES PROVIDED
=============================================================================

The Novell NetWare DOS ODI client directory includes:

* L100.COM Novell NetWare ODI Client driver
* NET.CFG Novell network configuration file for the driver

=============================================================================
HARDWARE INSTALLATION GUIDE
=============================================================================

* See the User Guide for complete installation instructions.

* When installing the Adapter in a PCI computer, make sure
   the slot you select supports bus master operations.

* No specialized setup is necessary for motherboards with automatic
    PCI parameterization (most new PCs support it).

* For motherboards with bus master jumpers and interrupt jumpers for
   PCI slots:

   1. Using the appropriate motherboard jumper, enable bus master operations
        for the selected PCI slot.

   2. Using the appropriate motherboard jumper, select the interrupt to the
        selected PCI slot.

   3. Using your computer setup menu:

        * Enable the bus master on the PCI slot.

        * Enable I/O on the PCI slot.

        * Define the interrupt number on the PCI slot.

DEVICE DRIVER INSTALLATION GUIDE
=============================================================================

1 Copy the DOS ODI driver related files into the proper directory.

2. Insert the LAN WorkPlace v4.0 for DOS Install diskette into the
     floppy drive.

3. Move to the drive where you inserted the diskette.

4.  Type:

     INSTALL [Enter]

5. Select a target drive and press [Enter].

6. When the program asks if you want to install the Windows application
     portion of LAN WorkPlace, select either "Yes" or "No" (the choice is not
     applicable to your adapter installation).

7. Ask your System Administrator to give you the appropriate IP information,
     such as IP address, router address, and subnet mask.

8. Press [Enter] to continue the installation.

9. Follow the prompts until asked if you want to update your system
     files. Use the information from Step 7, or see "Installing and
     Configuring the Software" in your Novell LAN WorkPlace for DOS
     User Guide.

10. When prompted to update your system files, select YES. The program
      automatically creates a backup of your DOS system files if they
      already exist.

11. Follow the prompts to copy the remaining LAN WorkPlace for DOS files
      until you finish the installation.

12. Exit to DOS.

13. Edit the NET.CFG file so that the line speed, cable type, network
     protocol type settings are correct for your network. You do not
     need to specify a PCI slot number or Interrupt number.

    If you do specify the slot number:
     * PCI slots are counted from 0--that is, the first PCI adapter
         installed is considered to be in slot 0, the next in slot 2,
         and so on.

The example that follows shows what the NET.CFG file should look like.

Lines preceded with > indicate text you must add to the NET.CFG file.

Lines preceded with # (the remark or REM character) are not executed.
Removing the # character activates these lines when you reboot.

*  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *

NOTE: The following lines must be left-justified in your NET.CFG file
        (do not precede them with the > character; this character only
         marks what you must type in the NET.CFG file):

             Link Support
             Link Driver
             L100
             Protocol TCPIP

            All other lines must be indented.

*  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *  *

In the example, no values appear next to the parameters in the Protocol TCPIP
section; however, you will see values next to the parameters in the Protocol
TCPIP section of your NET.CFG file. Do not change these values.
