       PD/CD-ROM DEVICE DRIVER INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR OS/2
=========================================================================
This driver supports the IBM PD/CD-ROM Device for OS/2,
the files contained on the driver diskette for OS/2 are:

IBMIDECD.FLT       CDROM driver
IBMIDEPD.FLT       PD-CDROM driver
OPTICAL.DMD        Optical device manager
PDFORMAT.EXE PD Format Utility (for Windows NT compatibility only)
PDINST.CMD         CID Installation script
SAMPLE.RSP Sample response script for CID install utility
README.TXT         This file
README2.TXT Readme for PD Format Utility

There are two installation methods supplied with this package.

1. Automated Install
2. Manual Installation: This method required editing the CONFIG.SYS and
   copying files to the system hardfile directory where your OS/2 is
   located.

Before you START
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Make sure you are currently running the standard OS/2 IDE device
   drivers. CONFIG.SYS should contain the line:
   Basedev=x:\OS2\BOOT\IBM1S506.ADD {options}
   where "x:" represents the drive where OS/2 is installed.
2. Insure that your CONFIG.SYS does not contain the following
   drivers. If they are present remove them using the un-install utility
   supplied on the Bus Master IDE Driver Diskette or remove them manually
   from your CONFIG.SYS.
   Basedev=x:\OS2\BOOT\PIIXIDE.ADD {options}
   which represents the Bus Master IDE device driver.
   Basedev=x:\OS2\BOOT\PIIXIDE.FLT {options}
   which represents the Bus Master IDE CDROM device driver.
NOTE: Installation assumes that you are already running the IDE
bus in your IBM PC. If this is the first IDE device being installed
in your system the driver IBM1S506.ADD will be added to your CONFIG.SYS.
The above mentioned Bus Master Drivers will be REMed in config.sys if
they remain.  The install utility assumes the driver IBM1S506.ADD is
located in the \OS2\BOOT directory.  If you have removed the driver,
copy it from your installation diskette 1 to \OS2\BOOT.
Automated Install
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Invoke the install script using the following format:

      PDINST /s:<source drive and path> /t:<target drive>

   for example, to install from diskette a: to the d: drive, type:

      PDINST /s:a:\ /t:d:

2) A confirmation text block will display. If the information is correct,
   press enter. If not, press control-C and then enter, and then restart
   the program with the correct information.

3) You will need to reboot your system after a successful installation.

Manual Installation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Copy the following file into the C:\OS2 directory.
        PDFORMAT.EXE
2) Copy the remaining files to the C:\OS2\BOOT directory.
        IBMIDECD.FLT
        IBMIDEPD.FLT
        OPTICAL.DMD
        PDFORMAT.EXE
        SAMPLE.RSP
        README.TXT
        README2.TXT
3) Edit C:\CONFIG.SYS
- Verify that the the following lines exist in your CONFIG.SYS.
        Basedev=IBM1S506.ADD
        Device=C:\OS2\BOOT\OS2CDROM.DMD
- Add the following three lines to your CONFIG.SYS. Insuring that
  IBMIDECD.FLT is listed prior to the IBMDEPD.FLT.
        Basedev=IBMIDECD.FLT /v
        Basedev=IBMIDEPD.FLT /v
        Device=C:\OS2\BOOT\OPTICAL.DMD /v
- The statements in CONFIG.SYS should look like:
  (NOTE: the driver PIIXIDE.FLT should not be loaded by config.sys)
        Basedev=IBM1S506.ADD
        Basedev=IBMIDECD.FLT /v
        Basedev=IBMIDEPD.FLT /v
        Device=C:\OS2\BOOT\OPTICAL.DMD /v
        Device=C:\OS2\BOOT\OS2CDROM.DMD
   NOTE: Your system will view this drive as two separate drive letters.
         The order of the last two lines listed above in the CONFIG.SYS
         will determine the order of the drive letter assigned to the
         drives. For example the above sequence will assign the PD
         function letter as D: and the CD-ROM drive function letter as
         E: assuming these drive letters are available.
4) Save your new CONFIG.SYS and Reboot.
Parameters
~~~~~~~~~~
   Valid command line parameters for pdinst.cmd:

   /R:<response file name> This parameter specifies the drive, path,
                                 and name of the response file to use.
                                 (If no response file is specified, the program
                                 will ask for confirmation on choices before
                                 attempting the install.)

   /L1:<error log file> These parameters specify the drive, path
   /L2:<History log file> and names of the log files. If these are
                                 not specified, no log file is generated.

   /S:<source location> This parameter specifies the source drive
                                 and path.

   /T:<target drive> This parameter specifies the target drive
                                 for the config.sys updates and file
                                 placement.

   /RK:<keyword=value> This parameter is used to override any keyword
                                 settings in the response file.
     KEYWORDS:
     target target drive for driver (OS/2 boot drive)
     source source path for driver files
