            FORMATTING PD MEDIA USING DOS/WIN 3.1
=========================================================================

There are two format utilities available to format PD media when using
DOS/WIN 3.1. PDFORM.EXE formats the media as SFD (Super Floppy
Disk, also known as DOS/Windows format) and PDFDISK.EXE formats
the media as FDISK FAT. We recommend using PDFDISK.EXE (FDISK FAT format)
for compatibility purposes.

NOTE: To format PD media, use one of the two format utilities
      provided. Do not format PD media using the DOS/Win FORMAT
      command. This will result in an error.

Below is a matrix showing the different operating systems and the formats
supported by each operating system. If your data disks are to be shared
with computers using an operating system different than your own, please
refer to this matrix for compatibility.

1.  Formats FDISK-FAT with OS/2 format utility (PDFORMAT.EXE).

2.  Formats FDISK-FAT with DOS/WIN 3.1 format utility (PDFDISK.EXE).

3.  Formats FDISK-FAT with Win 95 format utility (PDTOOLS.EXE).

4.  Formats SFD with DOS/WIN 3.1 format utility (PDFORM.EXE).

5. If disk is unformattted or already formatted as SFD, system
    formats as SFD. If disk has been previously formatted as FAT,
    system reformats as FAT.

        FORMATTING PD MEDIA TO FDISK FAT FORMAT OR SFD FORMAT
=========================================================================

To format media to FDISK FAT format you must use the PDFDISK.EXE program.
Follow steps 1 - 5 below.

To format media to SFD format you must use the PDFORM.EXE program. For
SFD format, follow steps 1 - 5, substituting "PDFDISK D:" with
"PDFORM D:" in step 2.

1. Determine the drive letter assigned to your PD drive. This example
   uses D: as the assigned drive letter.

2. Type at the following command at the C:\ and hit the ener key.

       PDFDISK D:

3. Insert the PD cartridge into the PD drive, press the enter key.

4. Type "Y" to continue.

5. Your media will be formatted in a few seconds. "Format Complete"
   will appear on your screen when the format is done.

      OTHER PARAMETERS AVAILABLE WITH PDFDISK.EXE AND PDFORM.EXE
=========================================================================

The examples shown below are for FDISK FAT formatted media. The same
functions are available for SFD formatted media by substituting
"PDFDISK" with "PDFORM".

VOLUME LABEL: Typing "PDFDISK D: /V:xx" (xx is the volume label) lets
              you assign a volume label to your media.

LOW LEVEL FORMATTING:
              Typing "PDFDISK D: /U" will execute a low level format.
              This will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
