CASSIOPEIA Update Pack Version 1.00 (US)
=======================================================

Important!
This program is designed to run on the following CASSIOPEIA
models only. Never try to use this program on a device other
than those specified below.

<< Supported Model >>
CASSIOPEIA BE-300

Installing this program performs the following updates.
  1. Card Driver Update
  2. Communication Setup Version 1.00.34 (US)

-------------------------------------------------------
Update Description
-------------------------------------------------------

1. Card Driver Update

"Card Driver Update" is a program that improves the performance
of the card services driver. It also makes it possible to use
certain storage cards that previously were not compatible with
the CASSIOPEIA BE-300.

* Note, however, that use of this program does not guarantee
compatibility with any particular storage card.

Operation Tested Cards (As of October 2001)

   IBM : Microdrive
           DSCM-11000 (1GB)
           DSCM-10512 (512MB)
           DSCM-10340 (340MB)

         * DMDM-10340 and DMDM-10170 older model cards are
              not supported.

SanDisk : CompactFlash cards that could not be previously
                recognized by the BE-300.

Note that this card driver does not provide compatibility with all
cards currently on the market. Some cards require installation of
a special card driver supplied by the card manufacturer to be used
on the BE-300. If you have such a card, contact the manufacturer
concerning availability of the applicable driver.
For details about handling cards, see the BE-300 User's Guide and
Hardware Manual.

## Important!
If you do not back up the contents of BE-300 memory before installing
the card driver, you will not be able to restore the BE-300 to its
pre-installation setup. We strongly recommend that you backup BE-300
memory contents before installing.
See the BE-300 User's Guide for details about the backup procedure.

## Microdrive Precautions
o Stop using the BE-300 and recharge it as soon as the low battery
  power message appears.
o Make sure BE-300 power is turned off whenever installing or removing
the microdrive. To remove the card, press lightly with your thumb on
the back of the card as you slide the card upwards.
o You can simplify the task of removing the card by affixing a piece
of cellophane tape or other tape to the back of the card when you
install it. Then just pull on the tape when you want to remove the
card. When affixing the tape, make sure that it does not block the
hole labeled "DO NOT SEAL THIS HOLE."
o Remember that the Microdrive is a hard disk drive. Always handle
the BE-300 with extra care to protect against impact whenever a
  Microdrive is loaded.
o Whenever using a Microdrive or any other type of storage card,
make sure you regularly backup the data to your desktop computer.
o When restoring data from the Safe Mode, you should wait for about
five seconds after inserting the storage card (to allow enough time
for the CASSIOPEIA to detect the Microdrive) as instructed by
"5. Insert the storage card that contains the backed up data into
the CASSIOPEIA's card slot." on page 38 of the Hardware Manual.
Only after the five seconds pass you should perform the next step,
which is, "6. Tap [Storage Card]."

2. Communication Setup Version 1.00.34 (US)

This version expands functions by allowing configuration of the
following parameters.
o Use/Do not use software compression.
o Cancel/Do not cancel dial up after passage of specified wait time.
  (Initial default: 120 seconds)
o Credit card wait time (Initial default: 0 seconds)
o Additional modem commands

* Communication setups created using a previous version have the
  following settings.
o Use software compression.
o Cancel dial up after passage of specified wait time. (120 seconds)
o Credit card wait time: 0 seconds
o No additional modem commands.
Operating Precautions

Note that upgrading to this version also causes the explanation of
the User's Guide to change as described below.

The [OK] button shown on the screen shot under step 2 on page 60
changes to [<-][->] buttons when this version is installed.
After configuring the settings on this screen, tap the [->] button.
This displays a screen like the one shown below, which is not shown
in the User's Guide.

    [ ] Use software compression.
[ ] Cancel call if not connected with in
               [120 ] seconds.
Wait for credit card tone [0 ] seconds.
    Extra dial-string modem commands:
    [ ]
    [<-][OK]

After configuring the settings you want, tap [OK].

Normally there should be no need to change the configurations of
the settings on the above screen. Change them only when required
by your Internet service provider or by the type of modem you are
using.
 "Use software compression."
Normally you should leave this option unchecked.
"Cancel call if not connected with in [120 ] seconds."
Depending on the modem you are using, specify a wait time
    from 50 to 56 seconds.
"Wait for credit card tone [0 ] seconds."
This setting specifies the credit card wait time.
Normally you should leave it set to zero.
 "Extra dial-string modem commands:"
You can use this box to append modem AT commands to a phone
number. Normally you can leave this box blank. Note that
commands do not need to be preceded by "AT".

-------------------------------------------------------

Use the following procedure to install this update on your BE-300.

<< To install the update >>

1. Prepare for installation.

Note that PC Connect is required to install this update.
PC Connect is a utility that came bundled with your BE-300.
If you do not already have PC Connect installed on your computer,
install it before installing this update.
If you have an application running on your BE-300, save all unsaved
data before continuing with the next step.

2. Connect the CASSIOPEIA BE-300 to your computer.
For details, see the section titled "Using Your CASSIOPEIA with
Your Computer" in your BE-300 User's Guide.

3. Use Internet Explorer to navigate to the file you downloaded
from the CASIO Website, and double-click the file.

This causes the compressed file to decompress automatically,
which creates a folder into which the decompress file is stored.

4. Open the folder that is created and then double click the file
named "setup.exe". This starts installation of the update.

5. Follow the instructions that appear on your computer screen.

6. Your BE-300 should reset automatically after installation is
complete. If it does not, press the reset button on the side of
   the BE-300.

This completes the update installation procedure.

-------------------------------------------------------

<< Uninstalling the Update >>

Normally there should be no reason to uninstall the update.
If you do need to uninstall it for some reason, make sure you
backup BE-300 memory contents before uninstalling, and restore
memory contents after the uninstall procedure is complete.

-------------------------------------------------------

<< Attention PC Card Unit Users and Potential Users >>

This update also upgrades the PC Card Unit Driver that comes
on the CD bundled with the PC Card Unit. If you already have the
PC Card Unit Driver installed on your BE-300, simply install this
update.
Never install the PC Card Unit Driver after installing this update.
Doing so will cause unstable operation of your BE-300. If you
install the PC Card Unit Driver after installing this update,
you need to install this update again to ensure proper operation.
