Talon Release notes:

General Information:
This release includes updates to the driver and BIOS. 
It is important that the BIOS that resides on the Talon card be updated 
as well as the driver. Please use the BIOS instructions that are below and 
are also included in the BIOS-REL_307 Folder.


The driver version 1.1 contains the following fixes and improvements:

1. Problems with OS installation on some motherboard models have been fixed.

2. Fixed drive compatibility issues.

3. Substantial improvements to RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 10 performance.

The BIOS version 3.07 contains the following fixes and improvements:

1. Problems with booting a drive attached to some motherboards (ASUS etc.) 
when a drive is attached to Talon.

2. Problems with booting a floppy drive.

3. Substantial improvements to RAID 0, RAID 1 and RAID 10 performance.



How to Flash Update the BIOS for Pacific Digital RAID Controller
------------------------------------------------------------

Create Flash Update Diskette
----------------------------
1.  Make a bootable floppy (DOS, WIN95, WIN98, etc.).
2.  Copy BIOS-REL_307\22050307.exe file to this floppy.

Flash Update
------------
1.  Insert the floppy diskette created in the above process into the floppy drive.
2.  Power on the computer and boot from the floppy created by the above process.
3.  At the command prompt, run the flash update program.
    example: a>22050307.exe
4.  Answer "Y" or all questions.
5.  The flash process will start. You should see the following characters displayed,
    as the flasher progresses:
    +*XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

6.  DO NOT REBOOT your machine while the board is being flashed.
7.  Wait until the phrase "BIOS Successfully Installed" is displayed.
8.  The updating process is now completed.
9.  Reboot your computer.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
