    Hardware Setup
    Driver Installation

  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  BEFORE YOU BEGIN
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your computer must meet the following requirements to be compatible
with the USB to 10/100M Ethernet Adapter:

  1. In order to use this device, you must have a copy of Microsoft
Windows 98/2000 operating system installed on your PC. Some versions
of Windows 95 version B (OSR2) support USB, but the device
drivers included in this package are designed specifically for
Windows 98/2000. If you do not have Windows 98/2000, this device
      will not work.

  2. Also, the device requires that a USB port is installed and
enabled on your PC. Some PCs have a USB port, but it is disabled.
Usually there is a toggle switch on the motherboard that will
enable a PC's USB port. Consult your computer's user guide. Some
motherboards have USB interfaces, but no ports. You should be
able to install your own USB port and attach it to your PC's
motherboard using hardware purchased at any computer store.

  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  HARDWARE SETUP
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The USB to 10/100M Ethernet Adapter comes with a USB cable. One end of the
cable has a rectangular plug, which is called an A-type connector. The other
end of the cable has a square plug, or B-type connector.

The adapter has two ports. One is for RJ-45 UTP network cabling -- it
looks like and over-sized phone jack. The other port looks like a
square hole -- this is the USB B-type port.

  1. Make sure your PC is powered on and that you are at the Windows 98
      desktop.

  2. Insert the cable's square B-type plug into the adapter's B-type
      port.

  3. Insert the other end of the USB cable (the A-type connector) into
the USB port on your PC. The adapter is now connected to your PC.

  4. Connect your adapter to a repeater or 10Mbps/100Mbps auto-sensing
hub using Category 5 UTP RJ-45 straight-through cabling. The RJ-45
jacks should fit into the RJ-45 port on both the adapter and the
      hub.

  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
  DRIVER INSTALLATION
  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Follow the instructions below to install the adapter's driver.

  1. Install the USB to 10/100M Ethernet Adapter if you haven't already.

  2. Turn the PC power ON then boot from Windows 98.

  3. Windows 98/2000 will prompt "USB 10/100 Adapter" in "New Hardware
Found" dialog box and "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.
If the Wizard does not appear, please view the section "Is USB
      correctly installed" below.

  4. Click "Next >" button when "Search for the best for your device.
      [Recommended]" is on.

  5. Insert the Adapter Driver Diskette in your floppy drive.

  6. Enable the "Floppy disk drives" check box and then click "Next >"
      button.

  7. Windows 98/2000 will prompt "USB to 10/100M Ethernet Adapter" in
"Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.

  8. Click "Next >" button and Windows starts to copy files from Windows
98/2000 CD-ROM to your hard disk.

  9. When the Insert Disk message appears, click OK. When the Copying Files
... window appears, type A:\ into the box displayed and click OK.

 10. Click "Finish" button from "Add New Hardware Wizard" dialog box.

 11. Remove the Adapter Driver Diskette from your floppy drive.

 12. Restart your computer to take effect the network function.

Uninstalling the USB to 10/100M Ethernet Adapter Driver
  -------------------------------------------------------
  1. Close all active windows.

  2. Click Settings, click on Setting then Control Panel. Double-click on
      the select Network icon.

  3. Under the configuration tab highlight the USB to 10/100M Ethernet Adapter.
      Click Remove then select OK.

  4. If you are prompted to restart your computer click NO.

  5. Start the Windows Explorer and go to Windows\System folder.

  6. Delete the file AN986N.SYS.

  7. Go to Windows\Inf folder. Delete the file AN986.inf. Go to
Windows\Inf\Other folder. Delete the file GenericAN986N.inf.

  8. Shut down the computer completely. Driver is removed from the
      computer.

  Is USB correctly installed ?
  ----------------------------
If the Wizard does not appear when you plug in the adapter, go to
"Device Manager" to check whether "Universal Serial Bus controllers"
exists. You can do this to go to "Device Manager" :

Right click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop, then select
"Properties" or Double click on the "System" icon in Control Panel.
Select the "Device Manager" tab. Select and expand "Universal
Serial Bus controllers". For example, you will see

  Universal Serial Bus controllers
Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
    USB Root Hub

Make sure that there is no red "X" sign or "!" mark on them.
  Thus, USB is correctly installed.
