This is a draft document. Refer to your installation guide.

Important Notes:
================
1. For first installation follow the procedure below.
   If your system already contains Modio and you want to re-install 
   new version then first uninstall Modio (See UnInstall Procedure 
   at the end of this document), and only then proceed to install 
   Modio.
2. If you need unimodemV capabilities (Voice TAPI compliance), you 
   have to install Microsoft's UnimodemV.


To install Modio On AD182x:
--------------------------

Hardware needed : AD182x Modio Card (Preferably with active speakers).
Software        : Modio device drivers and files in the Modio 
                  Installation diskette/s


Installation Procedure:
-----------------------

1. If First installation - 
   Plug in the Modio card and DAA into a free slot.

2. Restart the system

3. When the system detects the card and asks for disk, press "Browse" 
   and select the Modio install diskette in the floppy drive.

4. Modio will be installed.


After installation: 
-------------------
1. In Control Panel - System/Device Manager under Sound,video and game 
   controllers: 
     check for 1-3 AD182x devices 
               1 Smartlink Multifunction device  (*)
               1 Smartlink Voice Modem Wave device 
               (Optional - with Unimodem V only)

(*)If the Multifunction device is not found under Sound,video and 
   game controllers then check it under Multi-function adapters.
   
   In Control Panel - Modems:
     check for your modem 

2. Double click on the Codec device.
   Choose Modem property page
   Press the "Test Now" button and make sure that you got the 
   "Tested OK" message.

--- If audio system included -----------------------
3. In Control Panel - Multimedia: check "Show volume control on 
   the task bar".

4. If no Volume Control is installed, install it from the Control 
   Panel with "Add New Software" - Windows Setup/Multimedia. 

5. With Volume Control unmute Wave Device and ensure it is working by 
   playing any .wav file (e.g. from Control Panel - Sounds).	 



To Check that Modio is working:
------------------------------
1. Create a configuration (Direct to port or Modem) of Hyper Terminal.

2. Run Hyper Terminal.
   type ATI1-3 and make sure you receive the Modem IDs. 
   Dial any accessible phone number, and see that that phone rings.
   Dial to another modem (ATDTxxx or via the dial button of the TAPI
   interface) and see that a modem session is established.


Tips:
-----
If the modem does not work:

1. Double click on the CODEC device in Control Panel/Multimedia.
   Select Modem property page, press the test button and watch the 
   diagnostics.

2. if ERROR, NO DIALTONE or a similar message is received, check 
   whether Modio is connected to the line.

3. If the typing response of the terminal is very slow check that 
   there is no interrupt conflict.

4. Check whether Hyperterminal is configured to the right port.
   You can find the Modio COM port no. in Control Panel/Modems. 
   If not, press disconnect and change the port. 

5. If the Audio Codec Device IRQ is above 7, Try configuring it IRQ 5 
   or 7

6. Try setting other DMA channels for the Audio Codec device

If you have successfully connected, then Modio has been successfully 
installed.

Uninstall Procedure:
--------------------

1. Go to Control Panel/ Add/Remove Programs
2. Select "Modio Uninstall[xxxxxxx]"
3. Click on Add/Remove Button

You may now install a new version of Modio from the same diskette



Setup for some applications/online services:
--------------------------------------------
When using the following applications/online services, select the 
appropriate modem name from the modem list as follows:

  1. AOL (America Online) - "Hayes Compatible (Default)" 
  2. Juno - "Generic 33600 modem". 
  3. BitWare - "Rockwell based voice modem"

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
