3. Installation

This section describes the steps to install a ELSA GLoria
        Display Driver for Windows 95.
If you have used a ELSA GLoria-M/L/S before and you only want to
update your drivers, please refer section 3.5 (Update
        Installation)
Please note the differences depending on you install
Windows 95 the first time with a GLoria board in your computer
or you put the GLoria in a computer with a running Windows 95.
There are also differences between the installation procedure
on Windows 95 Build 950 and the new OEM Sevice Release 2
        (OSR2, Build 950 B)

        Installing Windows 95 Build 950 3.1
Installing GLoria on Windows 95 Build 950 3.2
        Installing Windows 95 Build 950 B 3.3
        Installing GLoria on Windows 95 Build 950 B 3.4
        Updating GLoria Driver 3.5
        Installing GLoria-S 3.6

3.1 Installing Windows 95 Build 950a

Put the ELSA GLoria into your computer. Be sure that the
VGA-Switch on your GLoria Board is in the "1" position (VGA
enabled). You must not have another VGA Board in your computer.
Now switch your computer on and start the Windows 95
installation. After finishing the installation procedure,
Windows 95 works in VGA Mode.
Start the Control Panel Application "Display Properties" and
select the property page "Settings". Windows now displays a
message to start the Hardware Installation wizard. Select
CANCEL and do NOT start the wizard! Instead select "Change
        Display Type...\Change Adapter Type\Have Disk\Browse" and
select the proper GLoria subdirectory on the ELSA CD. Now
follow the instructions given by Windows 95. After restarting
Windows 95 the ELSA GLoria drivers will be active.

3.2 Installing ELSA GLoria on a running Windows 95 system

Remove your "old" VGA and put the GLoria into your computer. Be
sure that the VGA-Switch on your GLoria Board is in the "1"
position (VGA enabled). You must not have another VGA Board in
        your computer.
On startup Windows 95 detects the GLoria Board as "PCI early
VGA Device" and promts for a manufacturer disk. Now browse
throught the ELSA CD and select the proper GLoria subdirectory.
Windows will copy the driver files and prompt you to reboot
        the computer.
After restarting, Windows detects another "PCI Early non-VGA
Devices" and prompts for a disk. Follow the instruction
described in the section before and restart Windows.
Now Windows is running with the ELSA GLoria drivers active.

3.3 Installing Windows 95 Build 950 B (OSR-2)

Put the ELSA GLoria into your computer. Be sure that the
VGA-Switch on your GLoria Board is in the "1" position (VGA
enabled). You must not have another VGA Board in your computer.
Now switch your computer on and start the Windows 95
installation. After finishing the installation procedure,
Windows 95 starts up in VGA mode and displays the message
"There is a problem with your display settings. The adapter
type is incorrect or do not work with your hardware". Confirm
this massage with "OK" and Windows 95 displays the dialog
        "Display Properties\Settings". Select "Advanced
        Properties\Adapter\Change\Have Disk...\Browse..." and search
the directory on the ELSA CD matching to your board (e.g.
GLORIA\L\WIN95). Now follow the instructions given by Windows
        95. After restarting Windows 95 the ELSA GLoria drivers will be
        active.

3.4 Installing the GLoria into a running Windows 95 OSR2 system

Remove your "old" VGA and put the GLoria into your computer. Be
sure that the VGA-Switch on your GLoria Board is in the "1"
        position (VGA enabled).
On startup Windows 95 detects a "S3-Virge" and needs to
restart. Press "Yes". On the next restart, Windows detects a
"PCI Early non-VGA Device and start the "Update Device Driver
Wizard". Follow the instructions and select "Other

("Standard Display Adapter (VGA)" or "S3-Virge"). Restart the

and select "Other Locations...\Browse..." and search the directory
on the ELSA CD matching to your board (e.g. GLORIA\L\WIN95).
Following this, Windows 95 misses the file eglr.inf and ask you to
reenter the directory of your device driver. After restarting
Windows 95 finds new Hardware ("PCI Co-Processor CPU") and
the "Update Device Driver Wizard" apears again. Follow the
instructions and enter the directory on the ELSA CD matching to your
board. When the wizard is finished the ELSA GLoria drivers is active.

driver for the ELSA GLoria-S can be installed. Click with your right
mouse button on the "My Computer" symbol and select the Properties.
In the Device Manager click on DISPLAY and show the Properties of the

file ELSA.INI. Normally you will need to reboot your machine to

------------------------------------------------------------------------

6. Known Bugs and Operating Notes

This section documents known anomalies or problems and gives
	hints on work arounds.

6.1 Version 4.03.00.2102

6.1.1 Changing color depth with QuickRes

If QuickRes changes the color depth without restarting Windows,
sometime you can see drawing errors. QuickRes patches (!) the
display driver, so the driver can no longer work properly.

6.1.2	Display errors with DirectX

Applications using DirectX could cause display errors when
DirectX version I or II is installed. Please install DirectX
version III to solve this problems. This version of DirectX you
will find on the WINNERware CD in the directory ELSAWARE\DIRECTX3

6.2 Version 4.03.2103

6.2.1 LapLink 7.5 and Remote Control

To use the feature Remote Control, the usage of device bitmaps
must be disabled. Insert the line DeviceBitmaps=0 in the
section [Settings] of the file ELSA.INI.

6.3 Version 4.03.2104

6.3.1 ELSA POWERlib and Software-Cursor

Using the ELSA POWERlib with software cursor (color cursor,
Mouse Trails) makes the system hanging up.
This will be fixed in a later release.
