Introducing Altair Telecom (www.microtelco.com): MicroTelco is a revolutionary service that brings multiple Internet Telephony Service Providers (ITSPs) together in a convenient, simple to use online account center for greater reliability and flexibility. MicroTelco delivers Internet based voice calls (from your PC to a standard phone) and Internet based faxes (from your PC to a fax machine or multiple fax machines and/or to email addresses). MicroTelco guarantees improved connection rates over a single service provider making it the most reliable internet based calling service. When one provider is unavailable we automatically select an available provider. MicroTelco can be easily set up to automatically compare rates between multiple providers and choose the lowest per minute rate (least cost routing) each time to complete your call saving you money on every call. MicroTelco lets you choose the provider you want for quality or cost. MicroTelco lets you select the provider in your area for better quality (quality can vary with a single provider depending your location around the world) for all your calls. MicroTelco lets you compare rates between multiple providers so you can choose the lowest cost provider available to complete your call (saving you money on every call). In addition, MicroTelco has its own online billing solution -- giving you complete control over your long distance costs. You can fund your account at anytime, view your calling history and long distance rates to anywhere in the world instantly with the click of your mouse. Features included from Internet SwitchBoard 5.5: - The ability for the Internet SwitchBoard Configuration Wizard to automatically detect if your system is behind a firewall. If the Configuration Wizard detects a firewall between you and the Internet, the Internet SwitchBoard will get the External Firewall Address and the Firewall Configuration Page will automatically display to allow you to configure the application on the spot. If you're not behind a firewall, the Firewall Configuration Page will not automatically display. - New firewall test button. A new firewall test button has been added to the Firewall Configuration Page. This firewall test will test the port values you have set for the TCP, UDP and Listening ports and report the results. - The Echo Cancellation control slider has been moved back onto the GUI. This will enable users to adjust the Echo Cancellation while in a call. - When your account balance drops to less than $1.00, a dialog box will pop up on the screen alerting you that it's time to recharge the account. This feature will provide sufficient warning to the user to avoid running out of funds in the middle of a call. - When you have finished dialing the desired number, a voice message will be played telling you that the call connection is in progress. This will end the awkward moments between the time you dial and the actual call connection and assure users that the call is in progress. Features included from Internet SwitchBoard 5.0: - Additional services with the MicroTelco Account Center. Blue Star, DeltaThree, Red Rocket, and Altair Telecom solve this problem for you by allowing you to call anywhere in the world from the Internet and always be able to pay low rates. You can call to Israel, Europe, Asia, South America, Australia and more for a fraction of what you might otherwise pay. These services are available under MicroTelco's online account center and do cost something, but they save you money by offering lower per minute rates than most traditional telecommunications companies. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS We suggest the following system configuration for your use: * PC with Windows 98SE/Me/2000 or XP * 200MHz or faster processor * 32 Megabytes RAM or better * CD-ROM drive for software installation * One of the following: - Open USB port - for My Internet Phone only - Open ISA or PCI slot - for Internet PhoneJACK ISA or PCI card only - Open PCMCIA Type II slot - for Internet PhoneCARD only * Modem or LAN based TCP/IP connection to the Internet In addition, for the Internet PhoneCARD and the Internet LineJACK only, you will need at least one, and preferably try at least two, of the following: 1) Analog Telephone or Key/PBX system with a spare trunk line port. A two-line phone is recommended for personal/home users with one line allocated for the PHONE port of your Internet PhoneJACK or Internet PhoneCARD and the other for your phone line. This also allows you to conference your Internet call with the second call from your local line. NOTE: If you are using a PBX you should review the new MicroTelco Gateway software which allows multiple calls in a single PC. 2) Multimedia Microphone and Speakers. This will allow you to experience the speakerphone functions of the Internet PhoneJACK and to hear normal Windows system sounds if you are using the Internet PhoneJACK as your primary audio card. With regards to the My Internet Phone, USB handset: this handset is not supported in Windows NT4, only in Windows 98/98SE/Me and Windows 2000. Multimedia drivers are currently not available. 2 - For the My Internet Phone, the Windows 2000 driver installation instructions are incorrect. In the dialog box requesting to insert the disk, click 'OK', click on 'Browse' and specify the path where the drivers are located and look for driver filename QNLoad.Sys. There are two ways to get to this file: (1) specify the path C:\Program Files\Quicknet\Internet SwitchBoard\Win2K; or (2) specify the path C:\WINNT\System32\Drivers 3 - Linksys PCMCIA network cards are not compatiable with Windows 2000. The system will hang regardless of the existence of the Internet SwitchBoard. UNDER Windows 98/98SE: 1 - Dial up users may experience more delay and dropouts than users connected via a LAN or Router. This is usually due to having the data compression function in the modem turned on. This function causes delay due to redundant buffering and possible expansion of data size during transmission due to redundant compression processes. This can be avoided by disabling modem based data compression in the Advanced Modem Properties tab accessible from the Modems Control Panel. WORKAROUNDS ============== 1 - Issue: on ATI type (i.e., ATI Rage Pro Turbo AGP 2X) video cards: A right side image is displayed when clicking on the "Call Status' button or when picking up the phone. Solution: Upgrade to the latest drivers, 4.11.2560, from ATI.com. 2 - Issue: Explorer error "An error occurred in your program. To keep working anyway, click Ignore and save your work in a new file. To quit this program click Close. You will lose all information since your last Save." This issue was encountered using Trident 9750 3D Image AGP or PCI video card. Solution: (A) Set 'Display Properties' to a True Color (24 bit) instead of High Color (16 bit) or 256 Color. OR (B) Change the 'Hardware Acceleration' to Basic Accelerator or None. To change the hardware acceleration: 1) Start the Control Panel. 2) Open the Display Control Panel applet 3) Select the Settings tab. 4) Click the Advanced button. 5) Select the Performance tab. 6) Move the Hardware acceleration slider from Full to the first tick (Basic accelerator functions). 7) Click OK and then Click OK. 8) Click Yes when asked to restart Windows. 3 - Issue: Computer freezes when attempting to restart Operating System with Internet SwitchBoard running. This issue was encountered using Trident 9750 3D Image AGP or PCI video card. Solution: Solution is the same as the above issue #2 - Explorer error. ===================================================================== MicroTelco, MicroTelco Gateway, Internet SwitchBoard, Internet PhoneJACK, Internet LineJACK, Internet PhoneCARD, My Internet Phone, Blue Star, Red Rocket and Altair Telecom are trademarks of Quicknet Technologies, Inc.
