IBM* SurePOS 32x PCI Serial Ports and Cashdrawer Installation Instructions 23 June 2003 Below are the instructions to get the PCI Serial Ports and the IBM CashDrawer to install and work on the IBM SurePOS 32x machine for both Microsoft** Windows** 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP. =============================================================================== Note: Before installing the drivers included in the sp32xpci.exe package, the Microsoft Windows operating system will display messages that it has found new hardware and the "Found New Hardware" wizard will prompt for the drivers. Cancel any attempt to load a driver at this time. 1. Place the file sp32xpci.exe in any location on the machine (for example: c:\temp) and run this self-extracting executable program. Select a directory location to place extracted files into and click on 'Extract'. 2. Change to the directory the files were extracted to and run the program: sp32xins.exe. This program will install the files in the appropriate windows location on the machine and update the Microsoft Windows configuration. 3. On Microsoft Windows XP, the "Found New Hardware" windows will appear for the four "PCI Serial Port" devices. For each prompt, select OK with the option to install the software automatically (Recommended). Note: During the installation for each PCI serial port, a "Hardware Installation" message stating that the driver has not passed Microsoft Windows Logo testing will be displayed. Select 'Continue' and then click on 'Finish' for each of these prompts. 4. For both Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP, a "Found New Hardware" window will appear for the 'IBM SurePOS 32x CashDrawer Port'. Select OK with the option to install the software automatically (Recommended). You will be prompted for the file: cdportio.sys. Select 'Browse' and choose the directory where the files were extracted to in step number 1 above. Select the 'cdportio.sys' file and click on OK. Then click on 'Finish' when prompted. After all the prompts for new hardware found are completed, the six serial ports should be operational. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
