	Promise FastTrak Series Linux Installation note for Caldera Linux 3.1 [07/26/2001]
	
	Note: These driver cann't be used on other Linux distributions or different kernel
	          version for FastTrak series.
	ft-s.o for Caldera Linux Server 3.1 
	ft-w.o for Caldera Linux WorkStation 3.1 
	
	a. Install Caldera Linux from CD-ROM boot.
	
	b. If your FastTrak device is PDC20262/PDC20265(FastTrak 66/FastTrak 100
	    Lite), you must append parameters to LILO booting, other FastTrak devices
	    doesn't. When at the GRUB menu press 'e' to append parameters, move to 
	    the kernel line and press 'e' to append the option:
	    
	    	ide2=0 ide3=0 ide4=0 ide5=0 ide6=0 ide7=0 ide8=0 ide9=0
	    
	c. When at Select-Language menu, press Ctrl-Alt-F2, login as root, It doesn't need
	    password. then insert FastTrak Series module disk to floppy.
	    
	    	#mount /dev/fd0 /floppy
	    	#cd floppy
	    	#copy ft.o /
	    	#cd ..
	    	#insmod ft.o
	    	#umount /floppy
	    	
	d. Press Ctrl-Alt-F8 to contiune install as normal.
	    		    	
	e. When at Finish Install menu before click 'Finish' botton, press Ctrl-Alt-F2, Copy
	    FastTrak module to root filesystem. It usually be mounted at /mnt/root.
	
		#cp ft.o /mnt/root/lib/modules/2.4.2/kernel/drivers/scsi/
	
	f. Press Ctrl-Alt-F8 to Finish installation.
	
	g. If your FastTrak device is PDC20262/PDC20265(FastTrak 66/FastTrak 100
	    Lite), you must edit LILO configuration as following.
	
		#vi /etc/lilo.conf
		boot = /dev/sda	(your root hard drive)
				.
				.
		append = "quiet ide2=0 ide3=0 ide4=0 ide5=0 ide6=0 ide7=0 ide8=0 ide9=0"
		#lilo
		
	h. After reboot, FastTrak linux driver was installed complete.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
