5. Installation Process
-----------------------
IMPORTANT for users of VideoPlex XPress SDK 2.0:
VideoPlex XPress Filter 1.21 (as the previous version) will not function correct alongside the VideoPlex XPress SDK 2.0. You should uninstall SDK 2.0 before continuing.

Installing the VideoPlex XPress Version 1.21 involves 2 steps :

1. Installing Hardware (VideoPlex XPress PCI Board)
2. Installing Software (VideoPlex XPress Filter

The installation process varies according to the configuration of your PC:

a. If you install on a PC where a VideoPlex Xpress decoding board with the VideoPlex Xpress
   Filter was never installed, proceed with Step 1 (Installing the VideoPlex Xpress board).

b. If you install on a PC with previous VideoPlex Xpress installations, first uninstall any previous installed filters.

Note : If you are upgrading Filter 1.2 on a Plug & Play machine - please refer to the notes below.

Step 1 - Installing the VideoPlex Xpress Board (Hardware)
---------------------------------------------------------
1. Switch your PC off.
2. Insert the VideoPlex XPress Board into a free PCI slot, preferably close to the CPU.
3. Switch your PC on again.
4. If you do not use the USB port you may want to disable it in the BIOS - this is known to prevent problems.
5. If your operating system does not support Plug & Play, proceed to installing the
   VideoPlex Xpress Filter 1.21. If your operating system supports Plug & Play, you will be asked
   for a inf file - supply the Vpxpress1.21.inf file which is located in your installation folder.
6. If requested, point to the requested driver file, which resides also in the installation folder.

To complete installing the Filter and start working, proceed to installing the VideoPlex Xpress Filter 1.21.

Note:
If your operating system supports Plug & Play and you had previously a VideoPlex Xpress board
installed, the operating system may not ask for an *.inf file as it remembers and uses the
previously installed driver. For proper installation in this case you should use the 'Update Driver' button in the Device Property Page (through the Device Manager), supplying the same inf file - Vpxpress1.21.inf.

Step 2 - Installing the VideoPlex XPress Filter (Software)
-------------------------------------------------------
1. Switch your PC on.
2. Run Setup from your installation folder.
3. Accept License Agreement
3. Choose destination folder for installation
4. Choose the components to install
5. Click Finish; VPXP Filter 1.21 is installed on your PC.

6. VGA cards support
--------------------
Best performance achieved at High Color, 16 bit mode.

VGA cards that were tested in Inlay mode:
-----------------------------------------
* Matrox Millennium G-400 16 MB RAM AGP
* Matrox Millennium G-450 Dual Head 32 MB RAM AGP
* ATI XPERT 128 (RAGE 128 GL) 16 MB RAM AGP
* ATI 3D RAGE PRO TURBO 8 MB RAM AGP
* ATI Radeon DDR 32 MB RAM AGP
* Diamond Viper 770 Ultra 32 MB RAM AGP
* Diamond Viper II Z200 32 MB RAM AGP

VGA cards that were tested in VPE mode:
---------------------------------------
* ALL ATI boards based on the 'Rage' or 'Rage Pro' chipset

7. Known Bugs
-------------
* Win 9X frame counter in the statistics window is inaccurate and does not display the correct frame count.
* While playing back a file in Windows Media player, not in full screen mode, a small black square (~3x3mm) appears on the upper left corner of the VGA screen. The square disappears by clicking once on the desktop and then pressing the refresh button (F5).
* MPEG-1 files with bitrate lower than 1.5Mbps (VCD for example) have delay of 1-2 seconds on Pause, Seek, Stop, etc.
* In the configuration utility: During playback, if trying to change from VPE to Inlay or change from TV+VGA to TV only, the changes do not take effect. This also happens when the player is stopped - you should reopen the MediaPlayer first.
* When opening a file a Black&White screen on the TV monitor might appear for a brief moment.
* While playback of video Elementary streams it is recommended not to move the seek slide since blocks might appear.

8. MPEG ComMotion operation when using the VideoPlex XPress
-----------------------------------------------------------
* Seek bar and pause button are not disabled in MPEG ComMotion. Nevertheless, they are not useful when decoding video streams on the MPEG ComMotion receiver.
* User should turn on the "Repeat Forever" flag in Windows Media Player for loop playback with MPEG ComMotion.

9. Features not supported yet
------------------------------
* QSIF MPEG-1 file format
* Audio modes: 32Khz frequency
* Layer 1 and layer 3 audio
* VOB extension files
* MS MediaPlayer 7.0

10. Support for PCs with new chipsets
-------------------------------------
* In some PCs with new chipsets which have a 133 PCI bus speed (see examples below), playback with VPXPress Filter 1.21 will be available only on TV, and not on VGA.
To solve the problem with Windows NT only: you can allow writing to the VGA through system memory. To do this, set "UseCopy" under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Optibase\VPXpress" to '1'.

Examples of such known computers include (for a complete and most updated list please contact Optibase Technical support):
* TYAN Reliance Computer Corp. CNB20-HE
* New AsusSteck Computer Inc, chipset CUSL2
