GAMMA.EXE
DESC : A Windows 3.1 utility used to demonstrate the Gamma Correction
feature of the ProMotion 6422. This is a technology demonstration
       only, not an end-user utility!
Ver : 1.03.02 Beta
Date : 18 Aug 95

To install :
        1) Copy bc402rtl.dll to the windows\system directory.
        2) Copy "gamma.exe" to hard drive.
        3) Create a Windows "item" for "gamma.exe" :
From Program Manager : File -> New -> Item

To use:
	1) The application can control the desktop and the HARDWARE
video window colors independently of each other. Note
that the HARDWARE video window is active only when the
video window is scaled 1X or larger, and not occluded by
any other window. Also it is not active at screen
resolutions larger than 1024x768 or with virtual desktop
	   enabled.

	2) There are two color correction palettes, primary and
secondary. The primary palette has 256 entries per color
so will give the smoothest gradations of color. The
secondary palette has 32 entries per color so if it used
for video it may cause some 'banding' or 'posterization'
	   artifacts.

	3) In non-direct color modes (<=256 colors) the primary palette is
always being used by the desktop. Thus, desktop correction is
available through the primary palette only, and video color
correction is available through the secondary palette only.

	4) The HARDWARE video window color can be controlled regardless
of desktop color mode. When video clips are open but the
HARDWARE window is not active, the video colors will be
controlled by the desktop color correction, if enabled.

	5) The following configurations are recommended:

	   Color mode Desktop Video
	   -----------------------------------------
	   256 colors Primary Secondary
	   32K/64K colors Secondary Primary
16.7M colors Primary Secondary for PhotoShop
16.7M colors Secondary Primary for video

	6) Four different correction methods are provided for comparison.
Each correction method is an equation with one parameter
which maps each color's slider value to an output value.
For most applications any of the methods will work fine.

	7) For debugging and references purposes, the primary and secondary
palettes may be dumped to a specified file.

Examples:

	1) To change the brightness level of video without affecting
	   desktop color:

	   a) Enable video color correction. Use secondary palette
if you are in 256-color mode, otherwise primary palette.
	   b) Select any correction method.
	   c) Lock sliders to move all color components together.

	2) To match PhotoShop colors in truecolor mode to color printer
	   output, to PanTone book, etc.

	   a) Set desktop to 16.7M colors. Enable desktop correction
	      using primary palette.
	   b) Load the test pattern image which you wish to match to
	      your ink samples, printout, etc.
	   c) Select any correction method (Standard recommended).
	   d) Adjust the three color components individually to achieve
best match. (Suggested procedure: set gray level first
with sliders locked, then fine-tune 3 components.)

	3) To remove undesired green tint from motion video image while
increasing green component of desktop windows.

	   a) Make sure desktop is in 32K, 64K or 16.7M color mode.
	   b) Enable video and desktop correction according to one
of the recommended configurations in the table above.
	   c) Decrease green slider bar for video, increase for desktop.
           d) Note that when video changes from HARDWARE window to
software, the colors will change considerably. To avoid
this behavior you can use the primary palette for both
desktop and video; though this will reduce the green
component of all desktop windows as well.
