Guide to update CardBus USB 2.0 host card driver, Copy Right 2002, Billionton Systems Inc.

***Important: It is assumed the driver of this CardBus USB 2.0 card had been installed.
The procedures below describe how to update the driver for solving compatibility issues
when connecting to USB 2.0 hard disk, CD-RW, DVD-ROM and other high speed USB 2.0 devices.

***Note: In Windows 2000 and Windows XP where log on is required, before installing the update 
driver, you must first log on as the administrator. 
(After installing the update driver, it is not necessary to log on as the administrator.)

(1) Copy all the files into a floppy disk. (If there is no floppy disk drive in your notebook PC,
    copy all the files into a directory in the hard disk, remember the path of the directory)

(2) Insert the CardBus USB 2.0 card into notebook PC's PCMCIA slot, Power on the PC. 

(3) Put the floppy disk into floppy disk drive.

(4) Using the driver in floppy disk to update the driver (force to update the driver),
    See below for detail procedures in Windows 98, Me, 2000, XP.
    (if there is no floppy drive in your notebook PC, when the system asks to key in the location
    of the driver, key in the path remembered in step (1) instead of "a:\")  
   
(5) After updating the driver, restart the notebook PC, and it is done.


[Notes]
***(A) After the driver is updated, for some notebook PCs, 
    for example, SONY's notebook PCs, there are some steps needed every time you use the card.
    1. Every time you use this card, We suggest you remove the card first, then power on the 
       notebook PC.
    2. After the PC is powered on and Windows is completely loaded, then insert the card. 
       (do not insert the card when the notebook PC is powering on)
    3. then connect to 1394 peripheral devices and work.
(B) If it comes out yellow mark on this card device in "Device Manager", try restarting the PC.
    If after restarting the PC, the yellow mark still exists, try to update the driver again.
    If after second time driver updates, the yellow mark still exists, please contact 
    support@billionton.com.tw
(c) When updating the driver and select "specify driver location", sometimes if it can not find 
    "USB2.0 ..." driver, then select "search for a suitable (or best) driver" and try again.
(D) When updating the driver and after "Have Disk" and key in "a:\", if it shows lists of 
    companies and available drivers, choose "Billionton Systems Inc." and then select 
    "USB 2.0 Host Controller" or "Billionton USB 2.0 Host Controller".

Windows 98
==========
1. use mouse right button to click on "My Computer", then click "Properties", it will show System
   Properties Windows
2. click "Device manager"
3. double click "Universal Serial Bus Controllers"
4. double click "USB 2.0 Host Controller" or "NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller" or 
   "Billionton USB 2.0 Host Controller"
5. click "Driver"
6. click "Update Driver"
7. it shows Update Device Driver Wizard, click "Next"
8. select "Display a list of all drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver you
   want", then click "Next"
9. select "Have Disk"
10. key in "a:\", then click "OK"
11. click on "USB 2.0 Host Controller" or "Billionton USB 2.0 Host Controller", then click "Next"
12. if it shows "Update Driver Warning", click "Yes" to proceed
13. it shows Location of driver, click "Next"
14. the system will load the updated drivers, after it is done, click "Finish"
15. restart notebook PC, and it is done.


Windows Me
==========
1. use mouse right button to click on "My Computer", then click "Properties", it will show System
   Properties Windows
2. click "Device manager"
3. double click "Universal Serial Bus Controllers"
4. double click "USB 2.0 Host Controller" or "NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller" or 
   "Billionton USB 2.0 Host Controller"
5. click "Driver"
6. click "Update Driver"
7. select "Specify the location of the driver (Advanced)", then click "Next"
8. select "Display a list of all the drivers in a specific location, so you can select the driver
   you want", click "Next"
9. select "Have Disk"
10. key in "a:\", then click "OK"
11. click on "USB 2.0 Host Controller" or "Billionton USB 2.0 Host Controller", then click "Next"
12. if it shows "Update Driver Warning", click "Yes" to proceed
13. it shows Location of driver, click "Next"
14. the system will load the updated drivers, after it is done, click "Finish"
15. restart notebook PC, and it is done.


Windows 2000
============
1. use mouse right button to click on "My Computer", then click "Properties", it will show System
   Properties Windows
2. click "Hardware", then click "Device manager"
3. double click "Universal Serial Bus Controllers"
4. double click "USB 2.0 Host Controller" or "NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller" or 
   "Billionton USB 2.0 Host Controller"
5. click "Driver"
6. click "Update Driver"
7. It shows Update Device Driver Wizard, click "Next"
8. select "Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific 
   driver", then click "Next"
9. select "Have Disk"
10. key in "a:\", then click "OK"
11. click on "USB 2.0 Host Controller" or "Billionton USB 2.0 Host Controller", then click "Next"
12. if it shows "Update Driver Warning", click "Yes" to proceed
13. it shows "Start Device Driver Installation", click "Next"
14. the system will load the updated drivers, after it is done, click "Finish"
15. close all windows, restart the notebook PC, and it is done.


Windows XP
==========
1. use mouse right button to click on "My Computer", then click "Properties", it will show System
   Properties Windows
2. click "Hardware", then click "Device manager"
3. double click "Universal Serial Bus Controllers"
4. double click "USB 2.0 Host Controller" or "NEC PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller" or 
   "Billionton USB 2.0 Host Controller"
5. click "Driver"
6. click "Update Driver"
7. select "Install from a list of specific location (Advanced)", then click "Next"
8. select "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install", click "Next"
9. select "Have Disk"
10. key in "a:\", then click "OK"
11. click on "USB 2.0 Host Controller" or "Billionton USB 2.0 Host Controller", then click "Next"
12. it shows warning messages, click "Continue Anyway" to proceed
13. the system will load the updated drivers, after it is done, click "Finish"
14. close all windows, restart the notebook PC, and it is done.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
