Limitations on Driver Software for Windows NT
August 25, 2000
***************************************************************
1. The limitations related to the Windows NT4.0 specifications.
(1) The name designated as "Removable Drive" including the
DVD-RAM drive cannot be changed.
(2) "Recycle bin" will not be created in removable disks
including DVD-RAM disc. Therefore, the files once deleted
will not be saved in the trash box.
(3) The 2.32GB FAT DVD-RAM disc formatted using
the Windows 95/Windows 98/Windows Millennium Edition OS
embedded format software cannot be read and written under
Windows NT.
(This happens because Windows NT does not support
Super Floppy Disk format type for more than 2 GB.)
If the data compatibility for Windows 95/Windows 98/Windows
Millennium Edition is necessary, use the formatter for the
UDF format or the FAT16-2.0GB format.
(4) When you login with the user name that does not belong
to "Administrator group", nothing will happen even if
you open [My Computer] and click the right button of
the mouse on the [Removable Disk] icon to open the
menu and select [Format].
2. Formatting DVD-RAM disc
(1) You must use the attached format software "DVDForm" for
formatting a DVD-RAM disc.
When starting Disk Administrator with the UDF formatted
DVD-RAM disc, the disk space will be recognized as
vacant because the UDF is not supported.
(2) FDISK FAT-16 2.32GB (Windows NT only) and FAT-16 2.0GB
When a DVD-RAM disc is formatted with FDISK FAT-16
2.32GB (for Windows NT only), the cluster size will
become 64KB with the total 38,076 clusters.
When the disc is formatted with FAT-16 2.0GB format
type, the cluster size will be 32KB with the total
65,397 clusters.
The FAT-16 2.32GB formatted disc needs at least 64KB
as a minimum writing sector even for a small file.
Therefore, the FAT-16 2.32GB format is very optimized
for storing big capacity files with a small number of
files.
On the other hand, in some instances, the FAT-16 2.0GB
format is effective for storing a large number of
small files.
3. UDF formatted DVD-RAM disc
The UDF formatted DVD-RAM disc, in some instances,
is not as good when handling a large number of files.
4. NTFS file type
Under Windows NT 4.0, if a NTFS formatted DVD-RAM disc
is inserted in the drive, the disc will be locked in and
cannot be ejected.
Therefore, it is strongly recommended that the UDF file
type or the FAT file type be used for a DVD-RAM disc.
