A) Remove DECchip 21x43 driver supported by Win95 OSR2
This adapter, AcerLAN ALN-315 10/100 Base-TX Fast Ethernet Adapter, is based
on DEC chip DC21x43. Thus, the 21x43 driver supported by Win95 OSR2 can
work on this adapter. If you want running supported driver in the driver
diskette, you should remove the adapter object and driver in Win95 system,
then following instruction steps B) & C) to complete installation and
configuration for the adapter.
A.1) Remove adapter object & driver for DEC chip 21x43

1. Click the "My Computer" icon in the Main Program Group.
2. Click the "Control Panel" icon from My Computer window.
3. Click the "System" icon from the Control Panel window.
4. Click the "Network adapter" icon from System window.
5. Click the "PCI Fast Ethernet DECchip 21143 Based Adapter"
icon from System window.
6. Click <Remove> button, then click <OK> button.
7. Close the opened windows.
A.2) Rename DC21x43 installation information file

8. Switch to MS-DOS Command Prompt windows.
9. Type the following DOS command:
CD \WINDOWS\INF
RENAME NETPCI.INF *.IN_
EXIT
10. Shutdown and turn off the machine.
** NOTICE!!
1. Here, \WINDOWS is the directory where your Windows 95 system is
located.
2. If you NEVER pluged AcerLAN ALN-315 10/100 Base-TX Fast Ethernet Adapter
into your PC,steps 1..7 in A.1) is not necessary. And you just
start from step 8 in A.2), because you need not to remove the
21143 adapter object and driver.
B) Install NDIS 4 driver to the Windows 95 OSR2
The drivers named ALN315.SYS contained in the directory
WIN95 OSR2.
NDIS Driver Installation on Windows 95 OSR2
--------------------------------------
1. Plug AcerLAN ALN-315 10/100 Base-TX Fast Ethernet Adapter
into one of the Master PCI slots of your PCI platform.
2. Turn power on then boot from Windows 95 OSR2.
3. When Win95 OSR2 finds the ALN-315 adapter,it will show a dialog box of
"Update Device Driver Wizard".The message of "The wizard will complete
the installation: PCI Ethernet Controller" will be shown,then
select "Next".
4. There will show a message of
"Windows was unable to locate a driver for this device."
Insert the AcerLAN ALN-315 driver disk into drive A and select
"Other Locations".
5. Specify the driver pathname "A:\W95_OSR2" in the dialog box of
Select "Other Location".
6. There will show a message of "Windows found the following updated
driver for this device: AcerLAN ALN-315 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet
Adapter." and "Location of Driver : W95_OSR2" in the dialog box of
"Update Device Driver Wizard".Select "Finish".
7. Windows 95 OSR2 will appear a message for you to specify the path of
the source drivers and insert Windows 95 OSR2 system disk to complete
setup steps.
8. Windows 95 OSR2 will finish the other installation procedure
automatically, then you restart the system.
9. Restart Windows 95 OSR2 after you have installed the driver.
C) Configuration NDIS 4.0 driver to the Windows 95 OSR2
1. Click the "My Computer" icon in the Main Program Group.
2. Click the "Control Panel" icon from My Computer window.
3. Click the "Network" icon from the Control Panel window.
4. Select "Adapter" item from Network Component Type dialog box,
then click "Properties..." button.
5. Click "Advanced" button from Properties for
AcerLAN ALN-315 10/100 Base-TX Fast Ethernet Adapter dialog box.
6. Here, you can set the following properties:
<1>. 100Mbps Transmit Threshold :
128 bytes ;Default is 128 bytes
256 bytes
512 bytes
1024 bytes
<2>. 10Mbps Transmit Threshold :
72 bytes ;Default is 96 bytes
96 bytes
128 bytes
160 bytes
<3>. Burst Length : 1 Dword ; Default is 16 Dwords.
2 Dwords ; (1 Dword = 4 bytes).

8. Restart your computer.
D) Configuration NDIS 2.01 driver to the Windows 95 OSR2
As described in step <1> to <5> in C) procedure
You can see three properties are followed by "(RealMode NDIS)" i.e.
Data Rate,SIA Mode and Slot Number.
These properties are specific for NDIS 2 driver.
<1> Data Rate: for AcerLAN ALN-315 10/100 Base-TX Fast Ethernet Adapter.
MB10 : speed is 10 Mbps,
MB100: speed is 100 Mbps.
<2> SIA Mode: the connection type of the LAN board,
can be selected from Twisted Pair, TP FULL DUPLEX
and AutoSense, default is AutoSense.
<3> Slot number: the PCI board index, range is 16..26, default is 16.
This parameter is used to distinguish activated board
when multiple 32-bit PCI LAN boards are enabled by the
driver.For two or more ALN-315 cards, this parameters is
required and cannot be omitted from PROTOCOL.INI.
The slot number. for the first LAN card is 16, for the
second is 17, and 18 for the third, etc.
Default value is 16.
