What is 'Wake on LAN' :

Wake on LAN is a technology that enables you to remotely manage the PCs
in your network even if they have been turned off.
When the client has been powered off,if needs, the Remote network
management software could send a wake-up frame to the client. The
Wake-on-LAN enabled adapter in the client receives the frame and analyzes
it to determine whether the frame contains the correct MAC address. If
so, the client turns on, just as you turned it on using the ON/OFF button.
Then the network managment software performs the tasks that it has been
        programmed to perform.

About ALN315 10/100 Fast Ethernet adapter's Wake on LAN (WOL) function :

ALN315 is not only a normal 10/100 Fast Ethernet adapter, but also has
Wake on LAN (WOL) capability. You can use it as a normal 10/100 Fast
Ethernet adapter. If the system requirements is match, then you can
        let the WOL function work.

System Requirements:

The complete WOL system comprises of the motherboard , network
adapter, BIOS and network management software. The motherboard
accepts the wake-up signal and performs the network management
        protocol.
        The requirements is :

. A motherboard that has a 3-pin header to connect to the NIC.
The header that ALN315 takes follows the recommendation of Intel.
          The pin definition is :

                     1. 5 -volt standby input
                     2. Ground
                     3. Wake up call
When system power is off, this signal goes low to
indicate that the NIC enters the remote wake on LAN
mode. This signal goes high when it receives the
wake up frame, and after the PCI power being provided,
                         this signal will go low.
Its timing diagram is as following.

                                      ÚÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ¿
                         ÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÙ ÀÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄ
                                      t1 t2
t1 : the time that ALN315 receives the wake up frame
t2 : the time after the moterboard receives the wake
up signal and provides the power of PCI bus.

Motherboard must support for the Wake up signal to turn on the system.

. The NIC card that has Wake On LAN capability and 3-pin header to
          match motherboard.

. 5V standby power, rated at least 600mA

How to let WOL function of ALN315 works ?

        1. you must make sure the system requirement is matched.
If the system is matched, then you just use the WOL cable that was
attached with packet of ALN315 to connect the adapter to
           motherboard's WOL connector.
You can make reference to user manual.

        2. Set up the enviroment that network management software needs.
