   Workstation for Novell DOS/MS Windows Client

   Introduction:
   -------------
   This document describes the procedure to setup the NetWare v3.X , v4.X
   DOS ODI driver for AcerLAN ALN-101 PnP Ethernet adapter.

   Location of Driver:     \DOS\ALN101.COM

   Sample Configuration Files:
   ---------------------------
      STARTNET.BAT:

         LSL
         ALN101
         IPXODI
         NETX or VLM

      NET.CFG
         LINK DRIVER ALN101
              FRAME ETHERNET_802.3
              EtherID = 006067000001   ---->  This keyword is Ethernet
                                              address of a adapter, and
                                              only  required  when more
                                              than one ALN-101 adapters
                                              exist on one system

   NOTE: a. The files LSL.COM, IPXODI.COM, NETX.*, VLM.EXE, *.VLM are
            provided by Novell.
         b. If more than one card is inserted on your system, the driver
            would prompt a screen for you to choice a LAN card.

   Simple setup Procedures for NetWare Client :
   -----------------------------------------------
      Before you start with the installation process, make sure that
      the adapter is properly installed. Make sure that your
      NetWare Client operating system is properly installed.

      1. Copy ALN101.COM from the AcerLAN Driver Diskette subdirectory
         A:\DOS to your harddisk.

      2. Create a batch file the commands listed above under
         STARTNET.BAT

      3. Run the batch file.


   Setup Procedures for NetWare 3.12 & 4.X Client with VLM:
   --------------------------------------------------------
      The installation utility INSTALL.EXE is located on Novell's
      "Netware Client for DOS and MS Windows" disk 1. Run INSTALL
      from the DOS prompt.

      The NetWare Client Install program screen will appear. You must
      complete each of the questions. These options are specific to your
      needs.

      1. Enter the destination directory for the NetWare Client.
         (The default directory is C:\NWCLIENT.)

      2. Gives you the option to automatically update the CONFIG.SYS
         and the AUTOEXEC.BAT files or modify them at a later time manually.

      3. Do you wish to install support for MS Windows? (Y/N)
         (MS Windows Subdirectory: default C:\WINDOWS)

      4. Asks you to select a network driver and provide configuration
         options. It uses the specifications you select to create the
         file NET.CFG. Insert the AcerLAN drivers disk when prompted for
         the driver disk and specify the driver path A:\

      5. Press <Enter> to install


   NOTE:
   -----
      1. Be sure to add LASTDRIVE=Z to your CONFIG.SYS file for the
         network mappings to work properly.

      2. Installing Multiple LAN Adapters:
         The keyword, EtherID, is provided for multiple LAN adapters in a
         single system by ALN101.COM. If EtherID unknown, you can ignore
         it in the NET.CFG file and directly run ALN101 under the DOS
         prompt, then your screen will display every adapter EtherID and
         select which one you need.

      3. The "Netware Client for DOS and MS Windows" diskettes, may be
         generated from Netware server 4.1 as followings:

         a. At the NetWare prompt (indicated by the Server name),
            run the INSTALL.NLM program by typing:

            server name: LOAD INSTALL <Enter>

         b. Select "Product Options" and press <Enter>.

         c. Select "Choose an item or product list above"
            and press <Enter>.

         d. Select "Create DOS/MS Windows/OS2 Client Install Diskette"
            and press <Enter>.

         e. Specify Network files directory or only press <Enter>.
            If your server is installed from CD-ROM, make sure the CD
            is on the CD-ROM.

         f. Mark the "DOS/MS Windows Client Install", and press <F10>.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
