CSI INTELLIDRIVER INFORMATION
=============================

The CSI Intellidriver allows Microsoft Windows applications to
print directly to your Cognitive printer, without special software.

Note: There are separate drivers for Windows 95, Windows 3.1/3.11,
and Windows NT 4.0. We do not supply a driver for Windows
      NT 3.5 or earlier.
The drivers are only valid all Blaster Classic, Code Courier,
and Pinacle printers on the Operating Systems listed above.
Cognitive does not guarantee correct functionality on other
operating systems, it is customers sole responsibility to
      test driver on those systems.

WARNING: The installation program automatically will attempt to
install the Unidrivers to your system. If our drivers are
the same version or more recent, then hit enter when
prompted to replace current DLL's. Otherwise cancel. It
is adviced to rename or copy DLL's before installation to
be able to restore the system.

Intellidriver Installation:
---------------------------

If you have a previous version of the CSI or Pinnacle driver
installed, delete existing driver before installing the new one.

Under Windows 95 or Windows NT, delete the printer from the
Printers folder.
If you are using Windows 3.1 or 3.11, you must manually delete the
following files from your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory:

csi.drv
csi.fon
csi.ini
pinnacle.ini
cognitiv.drv
pinnacle.drv
csi.hlp

Windows3.1x and 95:
Install the printer drivers by running A:\SETUP.EXE from within
Windows, and following the on-line instructions. SETUP.EXE will
automatically choose the right set of drivers for your operating
system. Choose which printer driver to install. SETUP.EXE will
allow installation of more than one driver per installation
session.

WindowsNT4.0:
Install the printer drivers by running A:\SETUP32.EXE from within
Windows, and following the on-line instructions. SETUP32.EXE will
automatically choose the right set of drivers for your operating
system. Choose which printer driver to install. SETUP32.EXE will
allow installation of more than one driver per installation
session.

Windows3.1x/95/NT4.0:
The driver does not distinguish between differnt versions of the
Barcode Blaster; you only need to select the printer type based on
the printer's maximum width and print method. There is a unique
selection for Blaster SR, since it uses 150/300 DPI pitch.

Note: The installed driver will allow access to all major features
of the selected printer class. Printers having limited
features and may not support all driver capabilities.

Load the required size or sizes of labels in the Setup dialog box
in order to have them available as an option in the application.

Restart the system after installing the Intellidriver.

Using the Driver:
-----------------

When using the driver with your Windows applications, enter bar
code data in your application using any text font. After the data
is entered and is visible as text, go back and highlight the
information you want to print as a bar code and select the
appropriate bar code font. The driver will then convert the text
to an on-screen representation of a generic bar code (please note
that the representation is only approximate). Make sure that you
highlight only the data that you want encoded, and no blanks,
carriage returns, or other extraneous characters.

The driver uses the printer's internal commands whenever possible,
but True Type fonts and graphic images must be sent to the printer
as bitmapped graphics. This tends to slow down the print process.
Use the printer resident fonts and set Draw Mode to COMMAND for
the fastest possible printing.

The Draw mode option mentioned above allows the driver to convert
all graphics to bitmaps (GRAPHIC option) or convert boxes and lines
to commands (COMMAND option). The latter will not allow
overlapping of graphics and data. If your label is simple,
contains a small graphic that does not overlap anything, and has
a box or a line, the COMMAND option will work best. If you're
using multiple graphics, you should probably use GRAPHIC mode.

CSI PROGRAMMER'S GUIDE INSTALLATION AND USE:
============================================

This disk contains printer programming information in the file
PROGGDE.HLP. This is a Windows Help file, containing a complete
printer command reference, fundamental programming information, and
some printer setup information.

Note: This file does not include programming information for the
Pinnacle printer. The programmers guide is only valid for the
Blaster Classic and Code Courier printers.

Copy the PROGGDE.HLP file to your WINDOWS directory. Most Windows
installations will already have a file association established for
files with the .HLP extension, and simply double-clicking the file
name (PROGGDE.HLP) from within File Manager or Windows Explorer
will display the Programmer's Guide.

If Windows tells you that "there is no application associated with
this file" when you double-click the file name, you will need to
associate the file with the Windows Help engine WINHELP.EXE.
Consult your Windows documentation if you do not know how to do
this.
