       Win2000 3-mode Floppy Disk Driver user's guide

1. File layout

This driver is run under Windows 2000 Professional(Japanese version). 
The driver files are placed in the directory: \jwin2000 which includes 
the following two subdirectories:

\floppy - contains clevoflpy.inf and clevoflpy.sys to update the driver 
          of  "Floppy disk drive"
\controller - contains clevofdc.inf and clevofdc.sys to update the driver 
          of  "Floppy disk controller"
Besides, this file(install3mode.txt) is also located in the directory 
\jwin2000.

2. How to install the drivers ?

The Windows should be installed before beginning to install this driver. 
The user will follow the following steps to install this driver:

a) Enter the control panel and click the "System" icon and then choose the 
   function of "Hardware" and click "Device Manager" button in sequence. 
   You will see a tree structure of the hardware listing for your computer. 
   Now, check the content of "Floppy disk drives" and "Floppy disk 
   controllers", they will be "Floppy disk drive" and "Standard floppy disk
   controller" , or maybe with other driver names if you have already 
   installed the other drivers.
b) At first, you click the function of "Driver" in "Floppy disk controller 
   Properties". After entering the sub-window , click "Update Driver(P)" 
   button, you will enter "the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard", and click 
   "Next(N)".
c) Do the following steps in the "Upgrade Device Driver Wizard":
   c-1)  In "Install Hardware Device Drivers" dialog box, answer the 
         question: "What do you want the wizard to do" by clicking the 
         second radio box item, "Display a list of the known drivers for 
         the device so that I can choose a specific driver(D)", then click
         "Next" and go to step (c-2).
   c-2) In "Choose Device Driver" dialog box, current available types are 
        shown in the "Model(D)" list box. If there is the item, "CLEVO 3-mode
        floppy disk controller", then choose it and then click "Next(N)" 
        button and go to step (c-4), otherwise, click "Have Disk(H)" button
        and go to step(c-3).
   c-3) Enter the directory where your driver files are placed in the edit 
        box "Copy manufacturer's files from", by key in directly or by 
        clicking "Browse" button to choose the file location to be 
        \jwin2000\controller to choose clevofdc.inf, and click "OK".
        Then click the "OK" button and it will return to the case in step 
        (c-2).
   c-4) After a moment, the wizard will copy the driver file clevofdc.sys to 
        appropriate Windows system directory until a message, "Windows had 
        finished installing the software for the device",  is displayed in 
        "Completing the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard" dialog box, then 
        clicking "Finish" button.
   When this updating process is over. You will see the properties of the 
   floppy disk drive has been changed to "CLEVO 3-mode floppy disk 
   controller". Do not reboot computer at this time.
d) Afterwards, you click the function of "Driver" in "Floppy disk drive
   Properties", After entering the sub-window, click "Update Driver(P)" 
   button, you will enter "the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard", and click 
   "Next(N)".
e) Do the following steps in the "Upgrade Device Driver Wizard":
   e-1)  In "Install Hardware Device Drivers" dialog box, answer the 
         question: "What do you want the wizard to do" by clicking the 
         second radio box item,"Display a list of the known drivers for 
         the device so that I can choose a specific driver(D)", then click 
         "Next" and go to step (e-2).
   e-2) In "Choose Device Driver" dialog box, current available types are 
        shown in the "Model(D)" list box. If there is the item, "CLEVO 3-mode
        floppy disk drive", then choose it and then click "Next(N)" button 
        and go to step (e-4), otherwise, click "Have Disk(H)" button and go 
        to step(e-3).
   e-3) Enter the directory where your driver files are placed in the edit 
        box "Copy manufacturer's files from", by key in directly or by 
        clicking "Browse" button to choose the file location to be 
        \jwin2000\floppy to choose clevoflpy.inf, and click "OK".Then 
        click the "OK" button and it will return to the case in step (e-2).
   e-4) After a moment, the wizard will copy the driver file clevoflpy.sys 
        to appropriate Windows system directory until a message, "Windows 
        had finished installing the software for the device",  is displayed 
        in "Completing the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard" dialog box, then 
        clicking "Finish" button.
    When this updating process is over. You will see the properties of the 
    floppy disk drive has been changed to "CLEVO 3-mode floppy disk drive".

f)  Reboot the computer, you will find the floppy disk drive and its controller have been really 
    updated to "CLEVO 3-mode".

3. How to verify the function of the 3-mode FDD ?

   At first, check the normal function by inserting a floppy diskette with DOS format 1.44 MB. 
Do reading and writing it with certain files you want.
   Second, check the function of 3-mode by inserting a floppy diskette with NEC format 1.23MB. 
Do read and write with certain files you want. Note that it will take a few seconds to begin 
read the floppy disk whose format differs from previous one.
If both of the above tests are passed, the function of 3-mode is verified OK.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
