   Windows 2000

   Introduction:
   -------------
   This document describes the procedure to install  Windows 2000 driver for
   Realtek RTL8029 PCI ethernet adapter.

   Location of Driver:     \WIN2000\RTL8029.SYS

   Before you start with the following installation process, make sure that
   your adapter should be properly installed in your PCI bus slot.

   Installing driver procedure on Microsoft Windows 2000 :
   -------------------------------------------------------
    A. Update driver after installing the driver of Realtek:

        If the INF file and driver for RTL8029(AS) has been added into
        Windows 2000, Windows 2000 will install the driver automatically,
        using the driver from Realtek.

        Please upgrade the driver according to the following steps:

      1. When you plug the adapter in the mother board and start Windows 2000,
         it will install the built-in driver automatically.

      2. Invoke Device Manager by choosing Start\Settings\Control Panel\
         System\Hardware(tag)\Device Manager(button).

         You can see that there is an item:
     
            Realtek RTL8029(AS)-based PCI Ethernet Adapter

         in the 'Network adapters' list in Device Manager.

      3. Right click the item:

            Realtek RTL8029(AS)-based PCI Ethernet Adapter

         in the 'Network adapters' list, and choose 'Properties' item
         to invoke 'Properties' window.

      4. Click 'Driver' tag, and then click 'Update Driver...' button.
         'Upgrade Device Driver Wizard' will appear. Click 'Next' button.

      5. 'Upgrade Device Driver Wizard' will prompt you to choose the way
         to find out the driver. Choose the item:

            Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that
            I can choose a specific driver

            Click 'Next' button.
         
      6. 'Upgrade Device Driver Wizard' will prompt a
         'Select Network Adapter' window. Click 'Have Disk' button.

      7. Put the driver disk in the floppy drive. In the 'Install From Disk'
         window specify the driver path, i.e. A:\WIN2000, and then click 'OK'
         button.

      8. 'Realtek RTL8029 PCI Ethernet NIC' will be displayed in the
         'Network Adapter' field of 'Select Network Adapter' window. Click
         'Next' button.

      9. 'Realtek RTL8029 PCI Ethernet NIC' will be displayed in
         'Start Device Driver Installation' window. Click 'Next' button.

     10. Windows 2000 will copy the driver files and system files for the
         network. If 'Digital Signature Not Found' window appears,
         click 'Yes' button to continue the installation.

     11. Click 'Finish' button in 'Completing the Upgrade Device Driver
         Wizard' window.

     12. You will see

            Realtek RTL8029 PCI Ethernet NIC

         in the 'Network adapters' list.

     13. The upgrade is finished.



    B. Install the adapter using the formal driver:

        If the INF file and driver for RTL8029(AS) has not been added
        into Windows 2000, install driver according to the following
        steps:

      1. When you plug the adapter in the mother board and start
         Windows 2000, 'Found New Hardware Wizard' appears. Click 'Next'
         button to continue installation.

      2. In 'Install Hardware Device Drivers' window, choose the item:

            Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that
            I can choose a specific driver

            Click 'Next' button.

      3. In 'Hardware Type' window, select 'Network adapter', click 'Next'
         button.

      4. In 'Select Network Adapter' window, click 'Have Disk' button.

      5. Put the driver disk in the floppy drive. In the 'Install From Disk'
         window specify the driver path, i.e. A:\WIN2000, and then click 'OK'
         button.

      6. 'Realtek RTL8029 PCI Ethernet NIC' will be displayed in the
         'Network Adapter' field of 'Select Network Adapter' window. Click
         'Next' button.

      7. 'Realtek RTL8029 PCI Ethernet NIC' will be displayed in
         'Start Device Driver Installation' window. Click 'Next' button.

      8. Windows 2000 will copy the driver files and system files for the
         network. If 'Digital Signature Not Found' window appears,
         click 'Yes' button to continue the installation.

      9. Click 'Finish' button in 'Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard'
         window.

     10. You will see

            Realtek RTL8029 PCI Ethernet NIC

         in the 'Network adapters' list.

     11. The installation is finished.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
