Introduction:
=============
This document presents information to users about National Semiconductor's
DP83820 Gigabit Ethernet adapter and the relevant NDIS5 software driver, 
dp83820.sys version 5.0.1.50 for MS Windows Millennium operating system.

Installation Notes For Windows Millennium:
==========================================
 1.If Windows ME has built the driver, when you plug the
   adapter in the mother board and power on the Windows ME, the
   Window ME will install the driver automatically.
 
   You will see there is an item "National Semiconductor DP83820 Copper 
   Gigabit Adapter" in the "Network adapters" list in the Device Manager.
 
   The Device Manager can be invoked by choosing Start\Settings\
   Control Panel\System\Device Manager(Tag)
 
   We recommend you to install the updated driver from the distributing 
   disk by performing step 3 ~ 9.
 
 2.If Windows ME has not built the driver, obey step 5 ~ 9 to install
   the driver.

 3.Invoke the Network adapters. Right click the item "National Semiconductor 
   DP83820 Copper Gigabit Adapter" and choose "Properties". 
   There will prompt the "National Semiconductor DP83820 Copper Gigabit 
   Adapter Properties" window.

 4.Click the Driver tag, and choose the "Update Driver..." button.
   There will prompt a "Update Device Driver Wizard" window. Click "Next".

 5.The Wizard will ask you "What would you like to do?"
   Please choose "Specify the location of the driver (Advanced)"
   Click "Next".
   
 6.When the following window opens. 
   Please choose "Search for a better driver than the one your device 
   is using now (Recommended)" and select "Specify a location.". 
   To navigate to the .\WINME path in floppy drive/CD-ROM drive.
   Click "Next".

 7.In the following window, the wizard will ask you "What would you like to 
   install?". Please choose "The updated driver(Recommended)".
   Click "Next".

 8.Windows driver file search for the device "National Semiconductor DP83820 
   Copper Gigabit Adapter". Click "Next".

 9.Click "Finish" to complete the installation, then restart Windows ME.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
