Introduction:
=============
This document presents information to users about National Semiconductor's
DP83820 Gigabit Ethernet adapter and the relevant NDIS5 software driver, 
dp83820.sys version 5.0.1.50 for MS Windows 98 operating system.

Installation Notes For Windows 98:
==================================
 1.When you plug the adapter in the mother board and power on the 
   Windows 98, the "Add New Hardware Wizard" window will prompt and 
   says that "The wizard search for new driver for: PCI Ethernet Controller"

 2.In the "Add New Hardware Wizard" window, click "Next" then it will 
   ask you "What do you want Windows to do?". 
   Choose "Search for the best driver for your device (Recommended)"
   Click "Next".

 3.In the "Add New Hardware Wizard" window, put the driver disk into the 
   floppy drive/CD-ROM drive and choose "Specify a location:". 
   To navigate to the .\WIN98 path in floppy drive/CD-ROM drive.
   Click "Next".

 4.Windows drivers file search for the device.
   "National Semiconductor DP83820 Copper Gigabit Adapter"
   Click "Next".

 5.Windows will appear some messages to insert the Windows 98 source disk to
   complete installation.
    
 6.If this is your first time to install the adapter and have not 
   install the protocols and clients for Microsoft and Netware, 
   please do not restart the computer. Go to the Start\Settings\Control 
   and double-click the Network icon to install the other necessary 
   files for the network operation.
   
 7.Then Windows 98 will ask you "Do you want to restart your computer 
   now?", Click "Yes" to restart the Windows 98.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
