         Wake On LAN 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter Installation
                  for Windows for Workgroups Driver

The following describes the procedure for installing the protected-mode
NDIS3 (SIS7016.386) driver under Windows for Workgroups.

NOTE: It is assumed that Windows for Workgroups has already been installed.

1.  Start Windows.

2.  Open the Network group and double-click Network Setup.

3.  To install the network adapter, click Drivers...

4.  In the Network Drivers window, click Add Adapter...

5.  From the list of network adapters, select Unlisted or Updated Network
    Adapter.

6.  Network setup now requires a vendor-provided network driver diskette.

    Insert the LAN driver diskette in drive A:, and type the following
    path for the location of the NDIS driver:

    A:\WFW311

    Click OK.

7.  From the Unlisted or Updated Network Adapter screen, select Wake
    On LAN 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter and click OK.
    The Network Setup screen now lists the adapter, along with the
    default protocol stacks:

    Wake On LAN 10/100 Fast Ethernet PCI Adapter (NDIS2/NDIS3)

8.  The Windows Setup program asks if you want to replace the Enhanced
    Mode Protocol Manager with the version you are installing now.
    Click Yes to All.

9. When prompted for the SIS7016.386 driver, insert the LAN driver
    diskette in the A:\ drive.

10. Type the following path to load the NDIS3 driver:

    A:\WFW311

    Click OK.

11. When prompted for the SIS7016.DOS driver, insert the LAN driver
    diskette in the A:\ drive.

13. Type the following path to load the NDIS2 driver:

    A:\NDIS2\DOS


    Click OK.

14. The PROTOCOL.INI and SYSTEM.INI files have now been modified.  WFW
    saves the old versions with the extension .001, where the number is
    incremented every time a new PROTOCOL.INI or SYSTEM.INI is generated.
    Click OK.

16. When prompted, restart the computer.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
