Please use a USB cable or a shielded bi-directional parallel cable (IEEE 1284 compliant) not longer than 2 m (6.5 feet). ================================================================== TOSHIBA Printer Driver Release Notes ================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------ Using the Printer Driver with other Printer Drivers ------------------------------------------------------------------ If another Windows Printer System printer driver is already installed on your computer, The TOSHIBA e-STUDIO120/150(USB) printer driver may not operate correctly. To avoid this problem, change the port setting of the previous printer driver from the parallel port (usually "LPT1") to "FILE", and then install the TOSHIBA e-STUDIO120/150(USB) printer driver. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hint ------------------------------------------------------------------ * When upgrading the printer driver, be sure to remove the old version driver before installing the new version. * If it is possible, try to use the latest versions of software applications, which are compatible with the operating system. A document created on an old version of a software application may not print correctly if printed from a newer version of the software. In this case, try saving the document using the new version, and then print it. * A document may not print correctly if printed with another driver including Desktop Document Manage Composer or Win FAX set as the Default Printer. In this case, change the Default Printer to the TOSHIBA e-STUDIO120/150(USB) printer driver, restart the application software, and then print it. * Brightly colored characters or lines (yellow, light blue, etc.) may not appear when printed. In this event, try the following: (A) Text consisting only of characters/lines created with CAD software: Try selecting the "2 Gradation Print" checkbox in the "Advanced" tab before printing. (In this case, sections where photographs, colored characters and lines overlap will all be printed in black.) (B) Text that includes photographs, colored characters and lines: Try decreasing the "Brightness" setting in the "Image adjustment" dialog box that appears when you select the "Image adjustment" button in the "Advanced" tab. (This will change the brightness of the overall printed image.) (C) Other cases If you tried the above and still did not obtain the desired printing result, change the color of the character or line, or make it thicker using the application's control for font or line * In the test page that is printed when you select "Print test page" in the printer driver properties, "Yes" appears by "Color printing"; however, this has been set only to improve the reproducibility of halftone printing. The unit is only capable of black and white printing. * When "N-Up printing" is set to "2-Up" or "4-Up", or when the "Print quality" setting is changed, the position of line breaks may change. In this event, adjust the character size and/or margins, and use the "Print preview" or "Show page layout" function in the software application to check the print layout before printing. * When printing in Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000, the displayed "number of pages" in the print queue may not be automatically updated. You can press the F5 key to update the displayed number. * When the "Fit to page" function in the "Paper" tab is used, enlargement or reduction is calculated based on the "Paper size" in the "Paper" tab, not on the paper size in the application. Therefore, when using this function, make sure that the "Paper size" in the "Paper" tab is the same as the paper size in the application. * If "N-Up printing" or "Fit to page" do not print correctly, try the following: (A) Use the Zoom function in the Word 2000 to change the print settings. Example: Use the "Scale to Paper Size" print option in the "Zoom" print control. (for N-UP printing use "Pages Per Sheet" .) (1) Select "Print" from the "File" menu in Word. (2) Select a setting in the Zoom function in the Print dialog box. (3) Click the "OK" button. ===> Printing begins. If the document is in "landscape" orientation, it may not print correctly using method (A) above. If the document does not print correctly, return the settings of 2 in (A) above to the original settings, and try printing with method (B) below. (B) After checking the format settings in the application, correctly set the printing properties. Example: "2-Up" printing in Microsoft Word. (1) Select "Page setup" and check the orientation of your document from the "File" menu in Word. (2) Click the "OK" button. (3) Select "Print..." from the "File" menu in Word. (4) Click the "Properties" button. (5) Select "2-Up" for the "N-Up printing" setting. (6) Select the "Paper" tab. (7) Set the "Paper size" to the size of your document. (8) Click the "OK" button. (9) Click the "OK" button. ===> Printing begins. * Printing may not take place correctly when a font for vertical writing (a font beginning with "@") is selected as a watermark font. In this event, use a font for horizontal writing. * The position, size, and color of a watermark shown in the watermark preview (on the left side of the "Watermark" tab) in the driver properties may differ from the actual printed result. Use the preview only as a general guideline. * If N-Up printing is selected in the "Main" tab when a watermark has been selected, an image will appear (the paper image in the upper left-hand corner of the "Main", "Paper", and "Advanced" tabs) indicating that one watermark will be printed on the paper. The image simply indicates that a watermark has been selected; it does not indicate the printing result. A watermark will actually be printed on each page of the document. For example, when a multi-page document is printed using 2-Up printing, two watermarks will be printed on each sheet of paper. * When using a custom paper size, use the bypass tray. * This driver includes a function that automatically reduces documents formatted in A3 or B4 size to A4 (letter) size before printing. If reduction does not take place correctly when printing A3, B4, ledger, or 8K documents from an application, try the following: (A) Select the correct settings in the printer properties of the application. For example, printing an A3-formatted document from Microsoft Word: (1) Select "Page setup..." from the "File" menu in Word. (2) Click the "OK" button. If a message appears informing you that the margin settings are not appropriate, click the "Ignore" button. (3) Select "Print..." from the "File" menu of Word. (4) Click the "Properties" button. (5) Select the "Paper" tab. (6) Set the "Paper size" to the size of the document: "A3 (Fit to page)". (7) Click the "OK" button. (8) Click the "OK" button. ===> Printing begins. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Limitations in specific software applications ------------------------------------------------------------------ * When editing multiple documents in MS-Word 2000 or 2002, opening the driver properties and changing the print settings for one document may result in changes in the print settings for the other documents. In this case, reset the print settings before printing each document. * If a document is printed using a large font in MS-Word and other applications, the application may be shut down by Windows. Fonts larger than 300 points can be set in MS-Word; however, do not use a font larger than approximately 300 points for printing. When using a large font in a document, we recommend that you frequently save the document so edits are not lost. * Colored characters in an Excel document may print in black. If you wish to print characters in grayscale, select "Photo" for "Print quality" in the "Advanced" tab of the driver properties. * Some English fonts may not print correctly from WordPad. In this case, use a different word processor application (MS-Word, etc.) * In WordPad, printing may not take place correctly if you specify a page range starting from the second page. In this event, select "All" for the pages to be printed. * When using Acrobat Reader 5.0 or later, a landscape-oriented document may be printed in the opposite orientation of other applications. In this event, deselect the "Auto-rotate and center pages" checkbox in the Print dialog box before printing. The above limitations were those that had been verified as of the preparation of this document. ================================================================== TOSHIBA Scanner Driver Release Notes ================================================================== ------------------------------------------------------------------ About the operating environment ------------------------------------------------------------------ *Monitor A monitor with 256 colors or higher is required. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Important points when using the scanner ------------------------------------------------------------------ * When scanning is performed using some OCR programs, scanning may not take place correctly depending on the settings. In this case, check the Twain driver and/or OCR settings. * When an image is scanned using A4, B5, Letter, Legal, or Post Card for the scanning range, the properties of the scanned image may not show A4/B5/ Letter/Legal/Post Card. * During device warm up, scanning from the WIA driver may cause an error message. In the case, please try again after the "Power save indicator" of the device turns off. * If it is possible, try to use the latest versions of software applications, which are compatible with the operating system. * The scanner function may not operate correctly after installation if more than one TOSHIBA e-STUDIO120/150(USB) units are connected to the same computer. In this event, delete the icons of the TOSHIBA e-STUDIO120/150(USB) units that are not being used from "Scanners and Cameras"" in the Control Panel. * When Color Mode is switched to Monochrome Mode (no red), Monochrome Mode (no green), or Monochrome Mode (no blue) at the time an original is scanned in, some other colors, which are not specified with this setting, may not appear in the scanned image. When this kind of phenomenon occurs, please try the following method. (a) Select the Full Color for Color Mode setup and then scan in the original. Adjust the color using the application software. ------------------------------------------------------------------ SHARP Corporation makes no guarantee regarding the suitability of the information presented in this document or the software for any purpose other than the use of this MFP driver.
