Due to an engineering error, the HD Audio bus driver that shipped in Server 2003 SP1 and Windows XP x64 Edition 
contains what is called ¡§time bomb¡¨ functionality that prevents the use of the binary after a certain date. 
That date was August 1st 2005 and users may find their audio device stop working after that date.

If the following conditions are true, the computer Intel High Definition audio functionality unexpectedly
quits working:

¡E The computer is running either Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) 
or Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition. 

The updated HD Audio bus driver binary to address this issue is available through the Microsoft Download Center, as a QFE Hotfix for system implementers (contact your TAM) and shortly on Windows Update for end users. The KB article number on this issue is 901105.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
