NE10/100 ISA Driver Installation
==================================

NOTE: The NE100I Driver requires LSL.COM version 2.11 or later.
If your current version of LSL.COM is less than 2.11, you will
need to install the LSL.COM version provided on the 10/100
Installation Disk.

We recommend that you install the NE100I DOS ODI Client Driver using
the "NetWare Client Install" program supplied by Novell (as described
in Section 1.1).

If your system is not Plug and Play compatible, you must run the
CONFIG program before starting operating system setup of
the adapter. For more information, type GENERAL.TXT in \GENERAL
or view the Plug and Play Notes section of README - General
Introduction. CONFIG must be run under DOS.

1.1 Driver Installation Using "NetWare Client Install"
--------------------------------------------------------------

The NE10/100 ISA driver should be installed using "NetWare
Client Install", the installation program provided by Novell. The
program is provided on the NetWare CD-ROM or floppy, along with other
NetWare client software. The latest software may also be obtained via
Novell's Web site (Novell.com), the Novell NETWIRE forum on Compuserve,
or call Novell at 1-800-NETWARE.

Use the program as follows:

1. Insert the NetWare Disk or CD-ROM in the proper drive. If
installing from a CD-ROM, change to the CLIENT\DOSWIN directory.

2. Run INSTALL. The following example assumes that your CD-ROM is
drive E.

    C:\>E:
    E:\>CD CLIENT\DOSWIN
    E:\CLIENT\DOSWIN> INSTALL

3. Follow the instructions provided by Novell for client software
installation. When prompted to select a network adapter, press
<Enter> to see the list of available network adapters. Press
the <Page Down> key to move to the end of the list, and then
select the entry "OTHER."

Note: The Novell Install program will also install Windows support
files. Answer Yes when asked if you want Windows support files (see
section 1.2 for further information).

4. When Install prompts, insert the NE10/100 ISA disk containing
the NetWare Client for DOS. Specify NWCLIENT.DOS as the directory
and press <Enter>.

5. INSTALL lets you select:

    FRAME Type (802.2, 802.3, etc.)
    Node Address
    Optional 32 Bit Access Enable
    Optional Media Type Setting

You must select the Frame type that your network is using. If you
have questions, contact your network administrator. The other options
should be left unchanged unless you have a specific need for them.
Please view the Keyword.txt file (see the end of this document) for
a further explanation of keyword use.

6. The program installs the Novell Client Software along with the
NE100I.COM driver in the subdirectory that you have specified.

1.2 Installing the Driver with Windows For Workgroups 3.11
-----------------------------------------------------------

If you have not installed Windows for Workgroups, do so before
running the Novell Install program.
The Novell Install program that comes with the VLM package will
install the necessary Windows support files, create appropriate
program groups, and modify the necessary *.INI files. After
running Install, reboot. You should then be able to click on the
NetWare User Tools in program group NetWare Tools and map the
needed drives and printers.

1.3 Manual Driver Installation for DOS
-------------------------------------------------

We recommend that you use the using Novell's "NetWare Client Install"
program to install the NE100I driver, but manual procedures are
included here.

If you already have a NetWare Client installed, then continue to
Section 1.2.1. Otherwise, install the NetWare Client now before
proceding.

1. Copy the driver file from the \NWCLIENT.DOS directory into your
NetWare client directory (the default NetWare client directory is
NWCLIENT). For example, with the 10/100 Installation Disk in drive
A:, enter:

    COPY A:\NWCLIENT.DOS\NE100I.COM C:\NWCLIENT

2. Check the version of LSL.COM in the NetWare client directory.
The versionis displayed when LSL.COM is loaded, and can also be
displayed with the command:

    LSL /S

If your version is less than 2.11, install the LSL.COM version
provided on the 10/100 Installation Disk. For example, with the
10/100 Installation Disk in drive A:, enter:

    COPY A:\NWCLIENT.DOS\LSL.COM C:\NWCLIENT

3. Edit your NET.CFG file. Before editing your NET.CFG file, make
a backup copy of that file and look at how your current adapter is
configured. Include a section heading for the 10/100 adapter. This
could be as simple as:

    Link Driver NE100I
     FRAME Ethernet_802.2

More configuration options may be required, especially if you are
running multiple protocol stacks. A sample NET.CFG file is provided
on the Installation Disk in the NWCLIENT.DOS subdirectory.

4. Edit the STARTNET.BAT file. You will need to load the driver when
you are bringing up the network. The NetWare Client Install
program creates a DOS batch file in the NWCLIENT subdirectory called
STARTNET.BAT, which loads drivers. If you are replacing an NE2000
adapter, then your STARTNET.BAT would look something like this:

    SET NWLANGUAGE=ENGLISH
    C:\NWCLIENT\LSL.COM
    C:\NWCLIENT\NE2000.COM
    C:\NWCLIENT\IPXODI.COM
    C:\NWCLIENT\VLM.EXE

Change the NE2000 in line 3 to NE100I.

Note: You may need to modify your CONFIG.SYS file to add the line:

    LASTDRIVE=Z

5. Reboot your machine. When you reboot, AUTOEXEC.BAT should invoke
STARTNET, and NE10/100 ISA adapter.

Note: To view the available keywords supported by the Microdyne
NE10/100 ISA Adapter, go back to the main menu of README and select
Keywords or type the KEYWORDS.TXT file in the GENERAL directory.
The keywords are also listed in the NET.CFG file.
