LAN Server Installation Notes for 
Microdyne NE10/100 ISA Adapter

Updated February 1997

If your system is not Plug and Play compatible, you must run the 
CONFIG program before starting operating system setup of 
the adapter. For more information, type GENERAL.TXT in \GENERAL
or view the Plug and Play Notes section of README - General
Introduction. CONFIG must be run under DOS.


Location of files
------------------
    \LANSERVR.OS2\NE100I.OS2   (OS/2 driver)
    \LANSERVR.OS2\NE100I.NIF
      
         or
     
    \LANSERVR.DOS\NE100I.DOS (DOS driver)
    \LANSERVR.DOS\NE100I.NIF (DLR and LSP installation file)

NOTE: LAN Requester needs DOS 3.3 through 5. If you're using DOS
6.0 or higher, run SETVER.EXE prior to using the executable
files found on the DOS LAN Requester disks. See your DOS
manual if you need help with SETVER.EXE.


General Installation - LAN Server and OS/2 Requester (4.0 or 3.0)
=================================================================

1. Run the MPTS utility with LAN Server 4.0 or OS/2 Requester 4.0.
Use LAPS with LAN Server 3.0 or OS/2 Requester 3.0.

2. Click Install.

3. When prompted, insert the Configuration and Drivers disk in a
floppy drive, specify A:\LANSERVR.OS2 or LANSERVR.DOS for driver
location, and click OK.

4. When Install reads the NE100I.NIF, installation is complete. 
Click OK.  The adapter driver has been copied to your system.

5. Click on Configure from the MPTS window.

6. In the Configure window, make sure the "LAN adapters and protocols"
button is on and click CONFIGURE.

7. In the LAPS Configuration window, select the NE10/100 ISA adapter
(OS/2 driver: NE100I.OS2)from the Network Adapters window.
   
8. Click "Add" in the Network Adapter window to add the adapter to the
current configuration.

9. Select your desired Protocol(s) from the Protocol window and click 
"Add" from this window to add the protocol(s) to the current
configuration.

10. Click OK when you're done and follow the prompts to exit MPTS.
Your CONFIG.SYS is automatically updated.
   
11. Shutdown and reset your system so the changes can take effect.


General Installation Under DOS (DOS LAN Services)
=================================================

NOTE: Due to a problem with the DLS installation utility, you need 
      to complete the following steps before executing the
      installation of DLS:
   
1. On DLS Disk 1, make a directory off the root called NDIS.
      
2. Copy the file NE100I.DOS (from the \LANSERVR.DOS directory of
the Configuration and Drivers disk) into the new directory \NDIS
on DLS Disk 1.

You are now ready to run the DLS installation program. If you are
re-installing a NE10/100 ISA adapter run the INFCHK program. The
program will remove old references to the NE10/100 ISA adapter.
INFCHK is in the subdirectory LANSERVR.DOS  

3. Run the DOS LAN Services installation program at the DOS
workstation. Follow the prompts.

4. When presented with an adapter list, select Network card not
shown in list below.

5. When prompted for the location of the OEMSETUP.INF file, insert
the Configuration and Drivers disk in your drive and enter
drive:\LANSERVR.DOS as the path. Drive = A or B.

6. Select the NE10/100 ISA adapter from the list. Follow the prompts.

7. Enter your machine name, username and domain name.

8. Set the options as you need; then highlight "The listed options
are correct" and press Enter.

9. Accept the defaults on the next screen, highlight "The listed
options are correct" and press Enter.

10.  Set any paramters needed. We recommend accepting the defaults. 
Highlight "The listed options are correct" and press Enter.

11. You may be asked to insert DLS disks. Follow the prompts to
complete the installation and restart your computer for changes
to take effect.


General Installation Under DOS: LAN Support Program (LSP)
=========================================================

If you are re-installing a NE10/100 ISA adapter run the INFCHK
program. The program will remove old references to the NE10/100 ISA
adapter. INFCHK is in the subdirectory LANSERVR.DOS

1. Run DXMAID from the LAN Support Program disk.

2. Follow the prompts and instructions.

3. When prompted, insert the NE10/100 ISA disk and
enter the pathname drive:\LANSERVR.DOS. Drive = A or B.

4. The default configuration is suitable for most environments. We
recommend accepting the defaults.

5. After the installation is complete, restart your computer for the
changes to take affect.


General Installation under DOS (DOS LAN Requester)
==================================================

If you are re-installing a NE10/100 ISA adapter run the INFCHK
program. The program will remove old references to the NE10/100 ISA
adapter. INFCHK is in the subdirectory LANSERVR.DOS

1. Run the DOS LAN Requester installation program at the DOS
workstation. Follow the prompts to configure your DOS LAN
Requester as you require.

2. After the installation is complete, restart your computer for the
changes to take affect.


Note: To view the available keyword values supported by the 
NE10/100 ISA adapter, go back to the main menu of README and select
Keywords or type the KEYWORDS.TXT file in the GENERAL directory.

How To Update Drivers Manually

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.

  • Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).

  • If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.

  • Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.

  • Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.

  • Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.

  • From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.

  • Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.

Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
