XpressAUDIO NT Driver kit release 1.00 1/26/98

Kit Contents:
	oemsetup.inf - installation file
mgxsb16.dll - user mode drivers (Wave In/Out, FM MIDI, extern MIDI in/out, Mixer, Aux).
	mgxsb16.sys - kernel mode driver for mgxsb16u.dll
	readme.txt - this file.

What's New:

1) Changed the mixer to act like the XpressAudio Windows 95 mixer.
2) Fixed output peak meter (seen in Sndvol32).
3) Fixed a bug in full duplex.
4) Fixed intermittent bug that caused synth to not appear on fresh installs.
5) Other tweeks...

ACTs:

We've been running the NT audio ACTs dated December 1 on Microsoft's web site .

1) We have seen that some wave out tests report that the sound device is already in use. This
is shown as a failure. This happens if system sounds are assigned. The test uses
system sounds to signal the end of the previous test (success). If the next test is
started too soon (manually) the device is found to be busy.
This is reproducible with the drivers shipping with NT. If the system sounds
are turned off these errors are not seen.

2) Wave out test 64 will fail if the "use preferred device only" box has ever been
checked in the multimedia control panel. Once this fails, the only way to recover
is to unload the driver with that box cleared, then reload the driver. This behavior is
seen on the stock SoundBlaster driver as well and appears to be a bug in either the
test or the operating system.

3) Mixer test 41 is failing. The MIDI sound levels are reversed. An investigation showed
that the test is sending down values opposite to what the dialog is prompting you to
listen for. The same failure occurs on the SB driver and driver we tried on a Crystal
codec sound card. This one truly looks like a Microsoft problem, it so prevalent that
they probably know about it. Other than this, the Mixer tests are passing.

4) The Direct Sound tests that involve writing to the primary buffer fail. This happens on
the Creative driver and appears to be a limitation of the DirectSound implementation
under NT. (The test shouldn't be trying it).

5) The inf file (oemsetup.inf) doesn't support plug-n-play. We have been unable to
get Windows NT (4.0, service release 3) to detect the XpressAudio hardware. So, at this
time it is necessary to make sure that the driver is configured identically to the BIOS
settings for the audio components. (Cyrix has not given feedback on this issue).

6) It is possible to clear all of the sources from the input panel of the mixer. This
is a bug in sndvol32. Other drivers which have multiplexed inputs also exhibit this
behavior. Actually, sndvol32 sends a "select" message when the graphical box is
deselected. So, the last box cleared is really selected in the hardware. If you
reboot when all are cleared the panel will come back with the correct box selected.

Installation:

To install the driver, open the multimedia applet (in the control panel) and
select the devices tab. Click on the audio device and then on the "add" button. In the
list of drivers select "Unlisted or Updated Driver", then point the dialog to the
files contained in this release.

You will be asked to reboot.
