INSTRUCTIONS FOR OBTAINING SCO DRIVERS FOR
			     HP PCI LAN ADAPTERS
		       (J2585A, J2585B, J2970A, J2973A)

The HP PCI LAN adapter drivers for Santa Cruz Operation (SCO) operating
systems are available for download from either Hewlett-Packard or SCO sites.

For SCO Open Server 5, the MAC Driver Interface (MDI) driver is available
to download as part of the Advanced Hardware Supplement version 5.1 or later.
Refer to the section "Installing SCO Advanced Hardware Supplement for Open
 Server 5" below for instructions.

For SCO Open Server 3, Open Desktop 3, or UNIX 3.2v4.X, the Link Level
Interface Driver (LLI) is available to download from Hewlett-Packard.
Refer to the section "Installing HP LLI Driver" below for instructions.

NOTE: The SCO Open Server 3 LLI drivers will be available as of June 1, 1996.

Installing SCO Advanced Hardware Supplement for Open Server 5
 ================================================================

The SCO Advanced Hardware Supplement (AHS) is collection of Network Drivers,
Mass Storage drivers, and Graphics drivers published by SCO several times
 a year.

The MDI drivers for the HP PCI LAN adapters are available within the
SCO Advanced Hardware Supplement, version 5.1 or later.

NOTE: AHS version 5.1 contains a MDI driver which will operate with
a HP J2585B at 10 Mbit but cannot attach to a 100VG hub. Only
the MDI driver supplied with the AHS release 5.2 or later will
	attach to a 100VG hub.

NOTE: AHS version 5.1 contains a MDI driver that does not support the
HP J2970A adapter. The MDI driver supplied with AHS 5.2 or later
	will work with this adapter.

It is highly recommended that Open Server Release Supplement 5.0.0d or
later be applied to any system running the HP PCI MDI LAN driver.

An overview of the steps are:

 1) Download the files comprising the latest AHS 5.X and any Release
supplements from a SCO site. Refer to the instructions below for using
    the Internet or modem.
 2) Reboot the computer single-user state and apply any Release supplement(s).
The supplements will re-link the kernel. Reboot the system to activate
    the changes.
 3) Install the AHS supplement. Only the Network Drivers component needs
    to be installed.
 4) Shutdown the system, remove the power from the computer, and install the
HP PCI LAN Adapter into the computer.
 5) Reboot the computer into single-user state and run the network
configurator, NETCONFIG. Select "Add new LAN adapter" under the
"Hardware" menu. Select your HP PCI LAN adapter from the list which
    appears.
 6) Complete the rest of the network configuration (e.g. selecting protocols,
IP addresses, etc) and relink the kernel.
 7) Reboot the computer and watch the SCO boot console messages for the HP
driver line (e.g. HFM or HFS) to verify the it successfuly loaded and
    initialized the adapter.

To download the supplements with ftp via World Wide Web:

For AHS, open the URL: ftp://www.sco.com/AHS/5.0/sco
For Release Supplements, open the URL: ftp://www.sco.com/Supplements

To download the supplement via an anonymous ftp connection:

    ftp to ftp.sco.com
    Login name: ftp
    Password: your email address
    AHS Directory: AHS/5.0/sco
    Release Supplement Directory: Supplements

NOTE: The wu-ftp software used on ftp.sco.com requires that two kinds
of DNS resource records for your site have been propagated to
	  SCO's nameserver: a Name-to-address mapping and a PTR
	  Address-to-name mapping.

The lack of a propagated PTR record for your site is the most common
cause of problems with anonymous ftp to ftp.sco.com. PTR records are
also known as "pointer" records or "reverse" records. Please contact
your Internet provider for more information.

To download the supplement via an anonymous UUCP connection:

     AHS Directory: /usr/spool/uucppublic/AHS/5.0/sco
     Release Supplement Directory: /usr/spool/uucppublic/Supplements

 2) Follow the instructions in the HFS342.TXT file to create a SCO formatted
    diskette from the HFS342.Z file.
 3) Install the HP PCI LAN Adapter into the computer.
 4) Boot DOS on the computer and run HPVGSET. Write down the I/O Address
Range the computer's PCI Plug-and-Play BIOS assigned to the adapter.
 5) Boot SCO on the computer and run CUSTOM to install the driver file into
    the system.
 6) Run the network configurator, NETCONFIG, and create a chain with the
HFS driver. Supply the Base I/O Address (i.e. the start I/O address)
    from step 4.
 7) Complete the rest of the network configuration (e.g. selecting protocols,
    etc) and relink the kernel.
 8) Reboot the computer and watch the SCO boot console messages for a HFS
