Thank you for purchasing your EtherFast 10/100 LAN Card from Linksys.
The instructions below explain how to set up the card's network
software drivers for use with your particular network operating system
like Windows 95, Novell, Unix, etc.
The EtherFast card is built for use in 32-bit, Plug-and-Play desktop
computers with auto-configuring PCI slots. It must be used in your
PC's bus master PCI slot. For further information, see the User Guide
that came with the card.
When a PCI card is used in a computer that has a Plug-and-Play BIOS
(Basic Input/Output System), the card is automatically configured by
the PC each time the machine is booted. The card's IRQ, memory address,
and other operating parameters are automatically assigned. There is
no way to change a Plug-and-Play card's IRQ and other settings outside
of the BIOS menu(s) that your computer providse. If the resources that
are assigned to your EtherFast card seem to conflict with other devices
in your computer, you will need to use your system's BIOS to resolve
the conflicts.
If you have problems configuring your BIOS or resolving IRQ or other
hardware conflicts, consult your computer manual or contact your PC's
manufacturer for BIOS setup & configuration directions.
Here are some general guidelines to follow when installing a PCI card
(like the EtherFast card) into your computer:
* If you need to configure your PC's BIOS in order to resolve an
IRQ or other conflict with the EtherFast card, there are a few
possibilities:
- Your PCI may not allow you to change the IRQ value(s) of
the PCI slot(s). In this case, you will ONLY be able to
use the IRQ & MEM values that have been pre-assigned to
each slot. The popular BIOS from Phoenix, for example,
does not allow you to modify BIOS-assigned IRQ settings.
- You may be able to change the IRQ & MEM values for a given
PCI slot by setting jumpers on your PC's mother board.
Please refer to your PC's motherboard user guide for
specific instructions.
- Your PC may allow you to change the IRQ & MEM values for
a given PCI slot by accessing the PC's BIOS setup menu.
Please refer to your PC's user guide for specific details.
The BIOSs from companies like AMI and Award are fully
customizable from their BIOS menus, for example.
* When loading the EMM386.EXE program in your computer's CONFIG.SYS,
you MUST use version MS-DOS 6.22 or above. If you load an older
EMM386.EXE program (below DOS 6.22), your computer will hang up while
loading the network driver.
* The EtherFast LAN adapter should be used in a 32-bit PCI slot that
supports PCI Local Bus Mastering. It cannot be plugged into a PCI
Bus Slave slot. Consult your motherboard's documentation for more
information on master & slave slots.
* When using NT, set your BIOS PCI settings, and the PCI settings
within NT itself, to MANUAL. NT is *not* a Plug-and-Play BIOS,
and will not usually recognize LAN cards if they are set to be
automatically detected & configured.

The following files on the EtherFast disk under
the NDIS\OS2 directory are used during the setup:

LNE100.OS2 NDIS2 OS/2 driver

SETUP
------------------------------------------------
1. Insert the IBM LAN Adapter Protocol Support (LAPS) v1.00 diskette
into your computer floppy drive.
2. Change to the IBMCOM directory.
3. Type LAPS and press [Enter].
The IBM logo appears.
4. Click on the INSTALL button.
5. Specify the target drive (typically C:\) and press [Enter] or select
OK. The files are copied to the target drive.
6. Select OK.
7. Select the INSTALL button a second time to load the drivers
8. Press [Enter].
9. Place the EtherFast setup disk into drive a:.
10. Change the "Install Additional Network Driver" panel to "a:\NDIS\OS2"
and select OK.
11. Press OK for each driver.
12. Select the Configure button.
13. Select "Configure LAN transports".
14. Select Continue. The Configure Workstation screen appears.
15. In the Network Adapters window, select "10/100 Ethernet Adapter".
16. Select the Add button.
This adapter name appears in the Current Configuration window.
17. If you want to enable "RIPL" features, select "IBM IEEE 802.2"
from the Protocols window, then select the Add button.
18. Select "IBM OS/2 NETBIOS", then select the Add button.
(You also may need to select the "IBM NetWare Requester" option,
then the Add button, depending on your network.)
Each time you select the Add button, the selected option appears in the
Current Configuration window below the chosen driver.
19. Select OK.
20. Select Exit.
The CONFIG.SYS Update screen appears.
21. Specify the drive for the CONFIG.SYS file.
22. Select the Continue button.
23. Select OK.
24. Select Exit.
25. Reboot your computer. Use the OS/2 Shutdown process to exit from
the program.
26. Reboot your computer again. Enter OS/2, and insert the OS/2 Requester
Install diskette into your computer floppy drive (usually drive a:).
27. At the OS/2 prompt, type: LANINST.
28. Press [Enter].
29. Select OK at the IBM logo.
30. Select OK again.
31. Select the "Advanced" option.
The Installation Tasks panel appears.
32. Select "Install or Configure this workstation", then select OK.
33. Select "Install or remove a component", then select OK.
34. Select all the other components you want to install.
* Use the arrow keys to choose each component
* Press the space bar to highlight it.
* Select the Install button and the word "Installed" appears in the
Status column.
* After you select all the components for this installation, select
the OK button.

Some components display "Install" next to them. We recommend
you select these components for installation along with the
other components you want to install.

35. Select "Configure a component", then select OK.
36. Select a component to configure from the list, then select the Configure
button (the default component is "Requester").
37. Specify the requester name and the domain name for that component,
then select OK.
38. If you want the server to start automatically when one of its
workstations is started, select YES.
39. Select one of the following requester services, then select OK:
Messenger
Message pop-up
The Configure screen appears again.
40. Select OK. At "Apply the Changes", select OK and insert the appropriate
diskettes as required.
41. Select OK at the file backup panel.
42. Select "Configuration complete".
42. Select the LAN adapter to which this configuration applies. If only
one adapter is installed in this computer, select "Adapter 0",
then select OK.
43. Select OK when the Configure screen appears.
44. Select the "Apply the changes" option, then select OK.
45. Follow the screen prompts to copy all files from the Requester diskettes
to your computer hard disk.

After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
