serimpsw.txt Driver File Contents (2004-01-23IMPFIX.zip)

Introduction:

SERIMPSW.INF
------------

This Windows XP/2000/ME/98 driver is to be used with Lava DSerial-PCI cards that use the IMP UART and exhibit random system lock-ups. It instructs these cards to use a modified version of the standard Windows serial port driver that has hardware flow control disabled. As such, applications that use this combination of driver and card must use software flow control (Xon/Xoff) or none at all. Other serial ports will not be affected.

Installation Instructions:
--------------------------

There are two methods of updating the driver.

Method 1: SERIMPSW.exe
----------------------

To install the updated drivers run serimpsw.exe from a directory that contains the following driver files:

serimpsw.vxd
serimpsw.sys
serimpsw.inf
lavmdmfx.bin

These files should have been provided in a package with the application and this readme file.

The application will scan the local computer for Lava DSerial-PCI cards that require the modified driver and will prompt you to confirm each individual port. Click 'Yes' to install the driver, 'No' to skip installation for the indicated port, 'All' to update all remaining Lava DSerial-PCI ports, and 'Cancel' to abort the operation.

Method 2: Windows' Device Manager
---------------------------------

Windows' Device Manager can be found by right-clicking "My Computer" in Windows Explorer, and selecting "Properties."

Once in Device Manager, open the "Ports (COM & LPT)" branch of the device tree. Right-click on "Lava DSerial PCI PortA" or "Lava DSerial PCI PortB" and select "Properties". Select the "Driver" tab and then "Update Driver..."

Windows 98: Instruct the update wizard to display drivers "in a specific location." Click "Next." Select "Don't Search. I will choose..." and then click "Next." Click "Have Disk" and then enter the directory that contains "serimpsw.inf". Click "OK". Select the entry "Lava DSerial PCI PortA - IMP (s/w flow control)."

Windows 2000/XP: Instruct the update wizard to display drivers "in a specific location." Click "Next" and then "Have Disk." Browse to the file "serimpsw.inf" and click "Ok." Select the entry "Lava DSerial PCI PortA - IMP (s/w flow control)."

This procedure must be repeated for each installed port.
