GARMIN GPS 12 Map Software Upgrade Information Software Version 2.05 ------------------------------------------------------------ WARNING: If this software is uploaded to a GPS unit other than the product for which it is designed, you will not be able to operate that unit. If attempts to upload software fail, you may need to return the unit to GARMIN for service. ------------------------------------------------------------ Instructions for uploading the new software to your GPS 12 Map using Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT: 1. Download the appropriate self-extracting zip-file for your GPS 12 Map into a directory on your hard drive. (i.e., c:\garmin). 2. Unzip the files into this directory by running the downloaded executable file (.exe). 3. Connect your GPS 12 Map to a free serial port (Com 1, 2, 3, or 4) on your PC with a PC Interface cable. 4. Turn on your GPS 12 Map and ensure the Interface format is set to "GARMIN." You can find this setting in the Main Menu under "Setup." 5. Change to the directory in which you unzipped the files, (i.e., c:\garmin), and run the update program: updater.exe. Select the appropriate serial port and click "OK" to begin the software upload. During the upload, the 12 Map's display will indicate "Software Loading...." The upload process should take approximately 3-10 minutes to complete. When the upload process is complete, the unit will reset itself and turn on normally. ------------------------------------------------------------ Changes Made from Versions 2.04 to 2.05 1. Added Nearest Geo Point Search Tab and Setup Page. NOTE: This is a new tab added to the series of nearest search tabs. The setup option through the menu of this page allows the search to be limited by choosing categories to include in the search. Points from all categories will not be present on all maps. This search is performed on the best (most detailed) map for the current position. The search map can be changed from the map at the current position by moving the pointer to the desired search area and choosing the MENU -> NEAREST TO PTR selection from the map page. 2. Added additional copyright page to display copyright strings for the basemap and supplemental maps. (Atlantic Map support) - This page also displays the Map Set Name and Date created. 3. Added characters to fonts to display foreign city strings. 4. Added 3 new user waypoint symbols. 5. Improved edge of map detection for supplemental maps. Switches maps when data stops instead of using rectangular box. 6. Modified DGPS warnings to be friendlier. Only displays warning after connected to a DGPS unit if in DGPS mode. 7. After your driver has been downloaded, follow these simple steps to install it.
Expand the archive file (if the download file is in zip or rar format).
If the expanded file has an .exe extension, double click it and follow the installation instructions.
Otherwise, open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting Device Manager.
Find the device and model you want to update in the device list.
Double-click on it to open the Properties dialog box.
From the Properties dialog box, select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button, then follow the instructions.
Very important: You must reboot your system to ensure that any driver updates have taken effect.
